Everett's usage has led to concern about Cole Kmet failing to match his near-every-down role from the past three season, but even if that happens, it's unlikely Everett would get enough snaps/routes to achieve mainstream fantasy utility of his own. 23 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE Cole Kmet - Rotates with Everett Kmet caught his lone target for nine yards in Saturday's 27-3 preseason win over Cincinnati.Impact Kmet and Gerald Everett rotated on the first-team offense for a second straight week, with the latter catching two of four targets for 10 yards in Saturday's win. Everett's involvement -- after signing a two-year, $12 million contract -- creates reasonable concerns about Kmet not matching his robust snap shares from the past three seasons, but Kmet could still take the lion's share of playing time once the games actually matter. 23 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE Dante Pettis - Catches two TDs Pettis caught each of his three targets for 53 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-3 preseason win over the Bengals on Saturday.Impact A 2018 second-round pick, Pettis was the Bears' No. 3 receiver as recently as 2022 but didn't play in 2023 after suffering a back injury last August. He's now battling for one of the final roster spots, having caught each of his three passes Saturday in the third quarter after starting QB Caleb Williams was pulled from the game. 23 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE Khalil Herbert - Takes five carries for 31 yards Herbert started Saturday's preseason win over the Bengals and took five carries for 31 yards in the first half.Impact D'Andre Swift was held out entirely after playing just two snaps in the preseason opener. It's a signal that the Bears consider Swift important and want to protect him, but Herbert at least has taken advantage of his extended playing time with the first-string offense this preseason, taking 17 carries for 97 yards in three appearances (including the Hall of Fame Game). He hasn't seen any targets, in part because Travis Homer has replaced him for some of the clear passing downs (Roschon Johnson didn't play the past two weeks, perhaps because of a minor injury). The way things have played out so far makes it a bit tricky to get a read on Chicago's backfield, apart from Swift being the lead guy. There have been rumors about the Bears showcasing Herbert for a potential trade, but it might just be that they like him to mix in behind Swift on early downs. 1 DAY AGO • ROTOWIRE Rome Odunze - Comes on strong in second quarter Odunze caught one of two targets for 45 yards and took a carry for 16 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Bengals.Impact Odunze and Caleb Williams played the entire first half, while DJ Moore and Keenan Williams were removed after three drives (all three-and-outs). After a slow start, Odunze took a jet sweep for 16 yards on the fourth drive to help set up a field goal, then made a 45-yard catch on the fifth drive on a play where Williams scrambled around before throwing a dart on the run. Shortly thereafter, Williams had another incredible pass on the run to Odunze in the back of the end zone, but the wideout seemed to lose track of where he was and had his feet on the wrong side of the chalk when he caught the ball. Williams ran it in himself a few plays later, finishing strong against a Bengals defense comprised of second- and third-stringers. Odunze likely will enter Week 1 as Chicago's No. 3 receiver in terms of playing time, but there's a good chance the ninth overall pick is more involved (and more productive) than most of the other WR3s around the league. 1 DAY AGO • ROTOWIRE Caleb Williams - Struggles early, shines late Williams completed six of 13 passes for 75 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Bengals, adding a seven-yard TD run on a scramble.Impact The Bears went three-and-out on their first three drives despite using most of their starters against what was mostly the Bengals' second-string defense. Williams then produced a field goal on his fourth drive with the help of a pass-interference penalty, an on the fifth drive he made a trio of spectacular plays to finally get the Bears into the end zone. He already has an impressive highlight reel of difficult throws on the run after seven total drives in two preseason games, immediately showing off what many scouts considered to be his best trait. The question now is whether Williams can efficiently direct the Chicago offense so that his scrambles and high-difficult throws are the dressing rather than the meat and potatoes. He was able to do that for both Oklahoma and USC in college, and he'll certainly have the necessary pass catchers at his disposal in Chicago, working with a deep group of skill-position players led by WRs DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze. 1 DAY AGO • ROTOWIRE Keenan Allen - Plays three drives Allen was held without a catch on one target in Sunday's preseason game against the Bengals.Impact Allen and DJ Moore were removed after three drives, all three-and-outs, while many of the Bears' other top players (including QB Caleb Williams and WR Rome Odunze) continued playing deep into the second quarter. Oddly, much of the discussion about Allen in recent weeks has centered on his weight, after SI's Albert Breer's offhand mention in an article that Allen is 230 pounds.
