OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Supervises all aspects of the day-to-day operation of a transportation vehicle maintenance repair facility and the center's parts room.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
1. Oversees the center's School Bus Monthly Safety Inspection Program ensuring the performance of follow-up maintenance as required by State statute and School Board Rule. Implements and oversees the centers fleet maintenance and inspection program for Driver’s Education, Food & Nutrition, Facilities Maintenance & Trades, Information Technology Services and Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Police vehicles. Ensures compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements. Responsible for follow-up training for employees, when necessary.
2. Oversees the operations of the center's parts room. Ensures proper inventory control and documentation of parts issued. Assists in the annual parts inventory. Ensures individual parts purchases meet bid compliance.
3. Monitors the center's fueling operation. Accountable for fuel and oil inventories and documentation of issued quantities. Responsible for hazardous materials used and monitors compliance with applicable regulations for the storage and disposal of those materials.
4. Supervises the work order process at the assigned center. Reviews work orders and daily status cards for accuracy. Recommends changes in the fleet maintenance work order system and trains personnel in the use of the fleet maintenance system.
5. Ensures continual shop safety, cleanliness, and safe work practices by center personnel. Ensures all facilities are DERM compliant and that any discrepancies are corrected in a timely manner. Ensures the Material Safety Data Sheet logs are up to date and the Right-to-Know law is followed.
6. Supervises the center's Quality Assurance Program. Monitors re-inspection of buses and assists in the quarterly fleet inspections at other locations. Performs a road call analysis on a weekly basis.
7. Maintains school bus records and ensures that they are in compliance with the Department of Education requirements. Maintains all other District vehicle records and ensures that they are in compliance with DOT requirements.
8. Maintains vehicle inventory at the assigned center.
9. Supervises center shop and parts forepersons, lead persons and clerical personnel in the performance of their duties. Performs probationary evaluations of new employees.
10. Ensures that all contracted buses assigned to the center comply with the School Bus Monthly Safety Inspection Program. Monitors insurance updates for contracted buses to ensure current coverage. Oversees the issuing of Safety Inspection Decals to contracted buses. Collects and processes monthly private bus inspection fees and maintains records of payments.
11. Oversees servicing of center’s equipment. Evaluates and inventories special tools and equipment.
12. Authorizes and signs center's leave/time cards. Monitors attendance and personnel performance.
13. Assists in the annual property control inventory.
14. Makes recommendations for technical training of mechanics.
15. Monitors a full-scale warranty program for all vehicles and components assigned to a Transportation Vehicle Repair Facility.
16. Approves all major repair expenditures and outside repair requests necessary for M-DCPS fleet.
17. Ensures Emergency Communications procedures are in place and are being followed.
18. Ensures compliance of the Workers’ Compensation Program.
19. Performs other duties related to the general administrative responsibilities of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, mobility, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Associate of Arts degree and five (5) years documented experience in quality control programs, truck maintenance or truck dealer service
OR
High school diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years documented experience in quality control programs, truck maintenance or truck dealer service.
2. Ability to communicate effectively as evidenced by clarity and conciseness of oral presentation and submitted documents.
3. Possession of a valid CDL Class B license with a passenger endorsement is preferred.
