Mumbai to JFK current hard metal on air India
Air India BOM-JFK non stop
Hey guys, I thought Air India was using the newer Delta planes but looking at FlightAware for the nonstop flight from Mumbai to New York AI119 and the last few days arrivals . It seems it is Boeing 777300 ER which is their older airplane. Can someone confirm if I have verified this correctly thanks.

It's been a bit of a mixed bag, some of the 777-300ERs are ex-EY aircraft (VT-AER, VT-AEO, VT-AEN and similar registrations, you can identify them on Flightradar24 as the aircraft without the red jharoka windows livery), so decent J and F on them.
If you are flying in Y though, I would have a slight preference for the original AI aircraft as they have a 3-3-3 economy layout.

Understood - it appears 70% roughly are VT-AER, VT-AEO, VT-AEN so thats not a bad chance if Im flying J,F. Doesnt belong on this board but if youve flown other airlines, would you choose AI F non-stop on this route vs Swiss/lifthansa 1stop business if both fares/points needed were about the same? Thx

LX F is genuinely superb and ZRH F Lounge at E gates is one of my favourites. Only flown LH F once, and via MUC. The two MUC F lounges are also very good, and LH F soft product is brilliant, even if the hard product is a bit dated..
AI F is a major hit or miss, but they do really excel in the service side of things in my opinion. There's a thread in this forum with experiences in AI F, including a few reviews of F on the new Etihad aircraft. I would say that in terms of hard product, AI F ex Etihad planes is better than both LX and LH, but older aircraft product is lackluster (though this assumes your seat and all features are working perfectly).

AI has pulled the old switcheroo on me twice on this route over the last year or so. Both times I was booked on the ex DL planes & both times they switched at the very last minute to the old 777s.
