Parkersburg News April 28, 2004 Tiffany R. Raber Tiffany Renea Raber, 23, of Belmont, went home to be with the Lord April 26, 2004. She was born July 19, 1980, in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of David and Debbie Dennison Raber. She was a 1998 graduate of St. Marys High School and attended the Celebration Center of St. Marys. She is survived by one son, Trey Whitlock of Belmont; one brother, Christopher Raber of Belmont; paternal grandmother, Monna Ann Raber of New Martinsville, W.Va.; maternal grandparents, Gary and Darlene Dennison of Folsom, W.Va.; two uncles, Tom Raber and his wife, Dorothy, of Belmont and Rodney Dennison and his wife, Kathy, of Winchester, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Melvin Raber. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Ingram Funeral Home, with Pastor Gary Saler officiating. Sherman Racer Sr., 86, of Wingate Senior Living, Parkersburg, formerly of Cherry Lane, Sistersville, died Sept. 30, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Friendly, W.Va., a son of the late Dudley T. and Dolly Bird Griffin Racer. He retired from PPG Industries with 37 years of service as an electrical supervisor. He was a World War II Army veteran; a Christian by faith; and a charter member of Friendly Lions Club. He was a graduate of the Coyne Electrical School of Chicago, Ill., and Electrical Supervising School of Springfield, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Thelma Eloise Griffin Racer; a son, Thomas Sherman Racer Jr. of Vienna; a daughter, Brenda Kyle of Vienna; a sister, Freda Hammett of St. Marys; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was especially fond of his dog, Suzie Q. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Virgil Racer; and a sister, Elsie Thorn Clark. Rader, 58, of Harris Street, Kent, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at his home. He was born Dec. 19, 1947, in Akron, to Russell J. and Mary V. (Kidder) Rader. He was a delivery driver for Kent Office Supply. He was a member of the Kent Civil War Society, and volunteered for Find-A-Grave and the Sons of Union Veterans. He also had begun work to restore Russell-Green Cemetery in Franklin Township and participated in the Adopt-A-Grave program at Pioneer Cemetery in Kent. Mr. Rader cleaned the Magics Day Care in Kent. He is survived by his wife, Jan R. He was born July 14, 1928, in Butler County, Pa., a son of the late Frederick and Edna Jordan Rankin. He was a retired electrician with International Brothers of Electrical Workers Local 968. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and had attended the Williamstown Baptist Church. He was a life member of the American Legion and a member of the VFW. He is survived by sons, Steve Rankin of St. Marys, W.Va., Rodger Rankin of Landover, Md., Robert Rankin and his wife, Patsy, of St. Marys and John Rankin of Sistersville, W.Va.; 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gene Rankin and his wife, Sue, of Huntington, W.Va., Sheldon Rankin and David Rankin of Pennsylvania; one sister, Margaret Rankin Matijak of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews; and a special companion of 27 years, Pearl Pittman of Williamstown. He was born Feb. 12, 1951, in Belmont, W.Va., a son of Margarette Katheryn Ingram Rankin of St. Marys and the late Frederick Thomas "Tom" Rankin. He was a 1969 graduate of St. Marys High School and attended Marshall University. He was a member of the Unification Church of Washington, D.C., and the Celebration Center in Belmont. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and fishing. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Amanda Fosbrink of New Vienna, Ohio; two sons, Josh Rankin and Elijah Rankin, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three brothers, Steve Rankin and Rob Rankin, both of St. Marys, and John Rankin of Sistersville, W.Va. (Gerald Bills) Pleasants County Leader April 17, 2004 Margaurite Anna Rawson Margaurite Anna Rawson, 101, of Conestoga, Pa., died Thursday, April 8, 2004, after a brief illness, at Lancaster General Hospital. She was formerly of St. Marys. A homemaker she worked as a seamstress making parachutes at Eagle Parachute Factory during World War II.She also was a carpenter earlier in life. She belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church, Lancaster, Pa. Born in St. Marys, at Long Run, she was the daughter of the late Herbert N. Haddox and Margaret E. Riggs Haddox.Her husband, Francis E. Rawson, Sr. died in 1982. Surviving are a daughter, Betty Louise Rawson of Conestoga, Pa.; and a sister, Gladys Johnson of Akron, Ohio; also many nieces and nephews. JOHNSON RAWSON St. Marys Oracle, Friday, September 27, 1912, page one The sad news was received with deep regret by the many friends of Mrs. Tabitha J. Rawson, when they learned of her death which occurred at her home near Waverly Saturday, Sept. 21, at 9 a.m., after an illness of nine weeks, due to a complication of diseases, when death relieved her of her sufferings, which sh bore with great patience and fortitude. The deceased was the wife of the late Samuel Rawson, and was 69 years of age. Mrs. Rawson was a most estimable Christian woman, being a consistent member of the Friends Church for 39 years. She was most highly respected and admired by her wide circle of friends in the section of Wood and Pleasants counties where she has been a life-long resident, for her genial hospitality and kindness to everyone. The many kind acts and good deeds left in the memory of her family and friends will rear for her a far grander monument than human hands can ever attain. She is survived by the following children: E. E. Rawson of Cairo, Mrs. Grace B. Ingraham of Marietta; H. M. Rawson and Mrs. Alice Freshwater of Waverly, also one foster child, Miss Mable E. Johnson of Parkersburg, all of whom were at the bedside when the end came, except the eldest son, C. E. Rawson. She is also survived by three brothers and four sisters, Mrs. Wm. Everly, Mrs. Melissa Everly, I. W. Johnson, Mrs. William Briscoe and I. O. Johnson, all of Waverly; Mrs. Elmer Furman of Los Angeles, Cal., and R. H. Johnson of Pittsburgh. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. W. Smith at Pleasant Chapel Monday morning at 11:30, after which interment was made at the Johnson Cemetery, beside the grave of her husband. Joseph Ray died at his home in this city on Thursday night. He had been afflicted with spinal trouble which was the primary cause of death. The funeral occurred Saturday afternoon with services at the late home after which the remains were laid to rest in the St. Marys cemetery to await the resurrection. He was born Oct. 15, 1937, in Raven Rock, W.Va., a son of the late Frank and Minnie Price Rea. He was a member of Raven Rock United Methodist Church, a 1955 graduate of St. Marys High School and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Europe and attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of Local 698 ICWV and retired from Union Carbide. He is survived by one sister, Pansey Gessner of Bangor, Pa.; one brother, Frank Rea Jr. of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother, Delbert Rea; sister, Madeline Smith; and an infant sister, Betty Jane Rea. (Gerald Bills) JAMES REA PLEASANTS COUNTY LEADER - FRIDAY - MAY 13, 1910 SUCCUMBS TO HIS INJURIES While oiling an engine at the Barnhart farm last Thursday morning, James Rea, who was employed on the lease as pumper became entangled in the machinery, crushing him so that he died on Friday night. His death came unexpectedly and was a great shock to his many friends. He leaves, to mourn their loss, a wife, eleven children, Mrs. C. R. Yost, of Parkersburg; Mrs. I. C. Barkwill, of Raven Rock; Nettie, Rachel, Mary, Margaret, Wilber, Odie, Charley, James and Frank, four sisters and two brothers, besides a host of friends. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon. The family wishes to thank the friends and neighbors for the kindness shown towards them during their hour of sadness. Also to Drs. W. H. Young, of Ben's Run and John B. Watson of St. Marys, and to Miss Ella Ferguson who were in attendance. Every thing that loving hands could do was done, but it was the Lord's will to take him from us. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Coleman Reed of this city, where he resided until his marriage to Miss. Georgia Bayles about ten years ago. He was an employee of the Ohio Valley Refinery. Besides his wife and parents, two brothers and three sisters survive, Joseph and Walter Reed, Miss Bethel Reed and Mrs. J. Barlow, all of this city and Mrs. Emma Smallridge of Paden City. (Gerald Bills) Saint Marys Oracle September 29, 2004 Francis 'Hank' M. Reed Francis "Hank" M. Reed, 85, passed away Sept., 3, 2004, in Canton, O. He was born in Wirt County on Feb. 23, 1919, a son of the late Steward and Maggie Jarvis Reed. He lived in Canton, O., for over 50 years and retired in 1982 from Republic Steel Corp. after 30 years of service. She was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Pleasants County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Clarence C. and Stacy Ellen Hart Reaser. During her early years, she worked at the St. Marys Marble Factory, she also worked for the Zipf and Bradfield families, the former Colin Anderson Center and retired from the Pleasants County Bank. She was a faithful member of the Pleasants Apostolic Tabernacle in St. Marys, where she faithfully attended for most of her life until recent years, due to failing health.
She is survived by one daughter, Teresa A. Thompson and her husband, Michael Thompson, of Elizabeth, W.Va.; two sons, Walter L. Reed and his wife, Joan, of Oil City, Pa., and Gary C. Reed and his wife, Luci, of Kissimmee, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Cynthia Lowther, Walter (Tom) Reed II, Paul E. Reed, Julia Huff, Timothy Reed, Gary C. Reed II, Kimberly Reynolds, Jason D. Randolph, Marcy L. Parsons and Danielle Collins; 11 great-grandchildren; also several loving nieces and nephews, including her caregiver for many years, Kathy McHenry Coody.

Mary V. Reed, 86, of St. Marys died April 7, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.
She was born Jan. 10, 1918, at Hebron, W.Va., a daughter of the late William Porter and Sarah Ethel Simonton Jones. She was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church and the Faith Circle. She had worked for the former WV Telephone Company. Her hobbies included reading and she enjoyed sports.
She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Knowlton and her husband, Jim, of Big Pine Key, Fla., and Margaret A. Dye of Key Largo, Fla.; a son, Bill Reed and his wife, Mary Lee, of St. Marys; eight grandchildren, Janeen Knowlton of Fort Wayne, Ind., Kristopher Knowlton of Big Pine Key, Fla., Phillip Knowlton and his wife, Anna, of Kalamazoo, Mich., Kenneth Knowlton of Kimmell, Ind., Bill Reed and his wife, Lesia, of Davidsonville, Md., Burt Reed and his wife, Sandy, of Mineral Wells, Teresa Dye of Westbrook, Maine, and Jennifer Steinhofer and her husband, Brian, of Lexington, Ky.; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Irene Jones, Ruth Jones and Jean Liston; and three brothers, Frank, Phillip and Paul Jones.

Walter Thomas Reed, 72, of 511 Morgan Ave., St. Marys, passed away Sunday, November 22, 1981, at the Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, WV.
He was born in Pleasants County to Joseph C. and Cora Ellen Masters Reed. He was retired from the Quaker State Refinery at St. Marys with 45 years of service. He was a member of BPOE Lodge No. 1701 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 2381.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Iva M. Reed; two sons, Walter L. Reed of St. Marys and Gary C. Reed of Charleston; one daughter, Teresa A. Randolph of Belleville; one brother, Joseph T. Reed of St. Marys; one sister, Emma McCleskey of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Nine grandchildren, Cynthia Lowther, Walter T. Reed II, Paul E. Reed, Julia D. Reed, Timothy Reed, Gary C. Reed Jr., Kimberly Reed, Jason D. Randolph and Marcy L. Randolph, also survive him.
Two sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
Services were at the Apostolic Faith Church at St. Marys with the Rev. Robert Lough officiating. Burial was at the IOOF Cemetery, St. Marys, WV.

GREENSBURG, Pa. Georgia Powell Reese, 92, of Greensburg (formerly Delmont, Pa., and Newport, Ohio) died Wednesday (April 5, 2006) at the Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg.
She was born, Sept. 8, 1913, at Stony Bottom, Pocahontas County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Okey and Marguerite Moore Powell. Georgia grew up for the most part in Pleasants County, W.Va., (Schultz and St. Marys). After graduating high school (Mason, W.Va.) in 1931, she taught school for nine years in Pleasants County in one room schools at Spice Run, Rush Run, Henry Camp, and Sugar Creek, and at the big city school at Belmont, while attending Glenville State Teachers College in the summers. She, her husband and children moved to McKeesport, Pa., in 1943 and then to Delmont, Pa., in 1951. When her husband retired in 1978 as Superintendent of Consolidated Natural Gas Companys Oakford Station, the two of them moved back to the St. Marys, W.Va., area buying a house in Newport, Ohio. In 1997, six years after her husbands death Georgia moved to the Greensburg, Pa., area to live with her sons and their families. She was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church at Schultz, Pleasants County, W.Va.
She is survived by one son, Okey L. Reese and his wife, Nina of Greensburg, Pa.; Mary R. Pro and her husband, Vincent of West Chester, Pa.;, daughter-in-law, Dora Reese of Ruffsdale, Pa.; seven grandchildren, David Pro and his wife, Kris, Dr. Michael Pro and his wife, Dr. OnAh, Charles Boucher, Christopher Boucher and his wife, Mary, Okey M. Reese, Natalie Reese, and Rebecca Reese; four great-grandchildren, Bryan Boucher, Reese Boucher, Hattie Boucher, and Matilda Pro; one sister, Catherine P. Simonton of Belmont, W.Va.; one brother, George Powell and his wife, Maxine of Cutler, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James C. Reese Sr.; son, James C. Reese Jr.; and one sister, Leota Ingram.

Sarah M. (Miller) Reese, 99, a retired homemaker and school teacher, died Dec. 11, 2005, after a short illness at the Arbors at Marietta.
She was born Oct. 5, 1906, in Wellsburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Hiram and Sarah Burns Miller. She received her early education in Paden City, W.Va., and her teaching credentials from West Liberty and Glenville State Colleges. She joined the Methodist Church as a young woman, but was active in the Good Hope Baptist Church at Schultz, W.Va., after her marriage.
She married Harmon L. Reese, a farmer and oil producer from Schultz and lived there until his death in 1952. At that time, she returned to teaching school and finished raising her family. For the past three years, Sarah has resided at the Heritage at St. Marys, an assisted living facility.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Been of Mulvane, Kan., and Erma Ginter of Bloomsburg, Pa.; a stepson, Alvin Reese of St. Marys; and several grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon; daughter, Martha Reese; stepdaughter, Evelyn Reese Williams; stepsons, Carlton Reese, Harold Reese, Junior Reese and George Reese; stepgrandson, James Carlton Reese; sister, Isadora Miller; and brothers, Manual Miller and Bernard Miller.

Madonna R. Reiss
Madonna Reynolds Reiss, born Madonna Ercel Reynolds on Jan. 27, 1897 in St. Marys passed away in San Clemente, Ca., on Oct. 26, 2004 at the age of 107, having lived in three centuries.
She was the daughter of James W. Reynolds and Catherine Columbia Smith Reynolds.
At a young age, the family moved to Ohio where Mrs. Reiss met and married her husband, Anthony John Reiss, who preceded her in death in 1970.
Burial services were Monday, Nov. 1 at the Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, Ca., where she rests beside her husband.
She is survived by her sons, James A. Reiss of San Clemente, Ca., and William R. Reiss of St. Simon's Island, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren.

NEW MATAMORAS - Bernard O. Reynolds, 93, of New Matamoras Route 3 died at 5:15 a.m. Monday (Oct. 27, 2003) at the Arbors at Marietta.
He was born Aug. 1, 1910, in Marietta to William and Mary Hammond Reynolds. He was a member of the Ohio National Guard prior to World War II. He retired from Kardex in 1972, and was a member of Pine Ridge United Methodist Church.On May 29, 1933, he married Margaret Felter. She died on Aug. 31, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by four sons, Bernard Reynolds and his wife, Ruth, of Belmont, W.Va., Robert Reynolds and his wife, Doris, of Newport, Roger Reynolds and his wife, Rhona, of Beverly and Joseph Reynolds and his wife, Lorraine, of New Matamoras; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta with Pastor Rick Miracle officiating. Burial is in Newport Cemetery. Charles R. Reynolds, 65, of Parkersburg died Sept. 24, 2008, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 15, 1942, in St. Marys, W.Va., a son of the late Clarence and Doris Ruckman Reynolds. He was a 1961 graduate of St. Marys High School, was retired from the Ames Co. and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and Moose and was an avid bowler, bowling in various leagues. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a WVU fan.
He is survived by one son, Bradley Reynolds and his wife, Jennifer, of Athens, Ohio; three grandchildren, Selena Reynolds, Colton Reynolds and Ethan Reynolds; three stepchildren, Robert Garrett and his wife, Brenda, Patrick Garrett and his wife, Patty, all of Newport, Ohio, and Charlene Lanham and her husband, Steve, of Williamstown; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jo-Ann Forrester and her husband, Paul, of Safety Harbor, Fla., Regina Dryer and Linda Gillum, both of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jan Thomas of Marietta; one brother, Jim Reynolds of Havelock, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

F. M. REYNOLDS
Franklin M. Reynolds was born November 21, 1853, and departed this life April 3, 1910, aged 56 years, 4 months and 12 days. He was married March 21, 1880 to Miss Ida Riggs. Five children were born to this union: Ethel O., Philip I., Thurman J., Lynden E., and Frances E.
He united with the Zoar Baptist Church in the year 1879, Rev. J. R. Shingleton being the pastor who baptised him into the membership, and he remained a faithful member until the organization of the church at Clay Point, July 7, 1883, when he became a member of that organization, now extinct). He was clerk of this church during its existence, also Sunday School Superintendent, until his health failed him. When the first Baptist Church of this city was organized some eleven years ago he identified himself with it, and retained his membership here till his Master said, "It is enough", and on the morning of April 3 he was transplanted into the Church Triumphant on the shores of eternal bliss.
He has been identified with many of the interests of this county; his counsels were always safe, conservative, and yet progressive He was a friend of the cause of religion; a man of deep conviction, yet had charity with all respecting other men's opinions. He was not one of those that was carried about with every wind of doctrine; he tried things until he proved them and then held to that which was good.
Funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist Church of St. Marys April 5, by the pastor, Rev. M. F. Kiger, assisted by Rev. J. R. Shingleton, after which his body was laid to rest in the Odd Fellows Cemetery to await the resurrection summons.M. F. Kiger

Word was received by relatives in Newport of the passing of Harry (Red) Reynolds, 76, former Newport resident in a hopital in East Liverpool. He made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Thelma Sample at E. Liverpool.
He is survived by his daughter and two sisters, Mrs. Stacy Davis of East Liverpool. Mrs. Essie Sorenson of Long Beach, Calif.; two brothers - Bernard of Newport and Lee of East Liverpool.
Mr. Reynolds was a retired kilnplacer for Homer Laughlin China, East Liverpool.
Services were held Monday afternoon with burial in E. Liverpool. Friends and relatives going to East Liverpool were Sam Greenwood, David and Skip Bookman.

He was born July 6, 1950, in West Virginia, a son of the late Clinton and Ruth Flowers Reynolds. John was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Norman Reynolds of Weston and Charles Reynolds of Parkersburg.

Karl Lane Reynolds 67, of St Marys died March 1, 2004 at St. Josephs Hospital. He was born August 3, 1936 in Pleasants, County WV. son of the late Benson and Jane Griffith Reynolds. King B. Reynolds, aged 74, of near Borland, Pleasants County died Monday evening in the Camden-Clark Memorial hospital after two days illness.He was a member of the Borland Methodist church and a member of the Parkersburg American Legion Post having been a veteran of the Spanish American War.
Surviving are three sons and three daughters; Earl Reynolds at home; Charles Reynolds of McKeesport, Pa.; Ralph Reynolds, Mrs. Madge Kedder and Mrs. Beulah Morson, all of Toronto, O.; and Mrs. Ethel Shaw of Flushing, O.; two brothers, Albert Reynolds of Parkersburg, and Charles Reynolds of Lowell, O.; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Runner of Parkersburg.
Funeral services will be held from the late resident this afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Joe Life officiating. Interment will be made in the Lemley cemetery. The body was removed from the Corbitt funeral home at Waverly, to the late resident last night.

Lucille Hammett Reynolds, 95, of Harrisville formerly of Eureka died Oct. 15, 2004, at the Pineview Continuous Care, Harrisville.
She was born Aug. 11, 1909, at Eureka, a daughter of the late Thomas Griffin and Bessie Marie Bames Hammett. She had worked for the U. S. Treasury in Washington, D. C., during World War II. She was a St. Marys High School Graduate. She had been employed by the Hi-Way Grille. She was a Methodist by faith.
She is survived by one niece, Betty L. Veit of Godfrey, IL., and one nephew, Paul Hammett of Memphis, Tenn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Hammett and Dick Hammett.
Services were Monday, Oct. 18, at the Ingrain Funeral Home, St. Marys with Pastor Chuck Rogers officiating. Burial was in the Willow Island Cemetery.

ISAAC O. REYNOLDS
Isaac O. Reynolds passed away at two o'clock on Sunday morning, November 12, at the home of his brother, Frank M. Reynolds, Grape Island, after having been confined to the house about two weeks with illness. He had been in poor health for some time, but had made no complaint, and his condition was not regarded as serious until he was compelled to return unexpectedly from a vacation trip that he had made to the East. On his return he attempted to resume his position in the Pleasants County Bank, but a brief trial convinced him that it was unwise, and he yielded to the advice of physician and friends and sought rest at the home of his brother. But in spite of the fact that he knew he was suffering from a mortal disease, cancer of the liver, he continued to exercise supervision as far as he could over the affairs of the bank.
The deceased was the youngest son of Isaac and Cassie (Bills) Reynolds and was born February 4, 1865. He received his first instruction in the St. Marys school, and afterwards attended the Marietta ... that time residing in Harmar. After leaving the academy, he learned the art of printing, and practiced the occupation at Sutton, in Braxton county. Returning to St. Marys; he taught school several terms, and in 1885 was appointed Deputy Sheriff under his brother, D. W. Reynolds. He filled this office in a highly creditable manner, and was continued in the position under Sheriff R. A. Gorrell and again under his brother, making a consecutive service of twelve years.
On October 23, 1895 he was married to Lucy Clifford, daughter of Mrs. Emma J. (Clifford) Patterson. Their happy wedded life was terminated by the sad death of his wife and child on the 9th day of October 1896.
In the year 1897 he assisted in incorporating the Pleasants County Bank, the first institution of the kind established in this city, and was appointed its cashier a position which he filled with universal approbation up to the time of his death.
He was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church, and was also a member of the secret society, A.F. & A.M., and its kindred organization, the Knights of Pythias.
His was a quiet life. He keenly delighted in the society of his friends, and was possessed of a remarkably even and cheery nature, never making an enemy that we have heard of. Ever since our first knowledge of him, he and his mother, with the exception of a few intervals, occupied the old family residence at the corner of Lafayette and Second streets and in which it is said the first court of Pleasants county was held.
The funeral, which occurred on Tuesday, November 14, was the largest ever held in the county. The Masonic fraternity took charge of the remains and brought them from Grape Island to this city at 3:30 in the afternoon. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Protestant Church and opened for a last look at the departed, and the funeral procession wended its way to the cemetery, where interment took place under the management of the Masonic Brotherhood, the remains being lowered into the grave at sunset.
The pall bearers were James M. Oldfield, Walter F. Varner, F.J. Hinderliter, Julius A. Schauwecker, Charles Steere and Dr. John B. Watson.The floral offerings were magnificent, testifying strongly the esteem and affection in which the deceased was held.

Death is a sad visitor. It comes unbidden, but often not without a warning, and it leaves the home desolate indeed. Sickness, which is sometimes a precursor of dissolution, only adds to the endearment. Each member of the family in health would willingly suffer in his stead; and when Death finally with his icy hand removes the one thus doubly endeared, each bereaved one seems to think that he or she could have been better spared. God giveth as he sees fit, and taketh away as he likes. Consolation can only come from Heaven. We will no further attempt it.
JOSEPH HAMILTON REYNOLDS, the subject of these remarks, was born in Pleasants county, West Virginia, August 3, 1861. At the age of sixteen he commenced to learn the printing trade, and at seventeen he started to travel, working in several offices in the Southern States. In the year 1881 he entered into partnership with William Devine, and started the "Rio Grande Vally." in Brownsville, Texas. The partnership lasted about a year, when Joseph became the sole proprietor of the paper.He remained in Brownsville during the yellow fever siege of 1882, and passed through the trying ordeal. In June 1883, he returned home in impaired health, and remained here with his mother and friends until his death, which occured May 10, 1884.His disease, which was pronounced consumption, was brought on by over-exertion in his work and lack of proper out-door exercise.
He was ambitious, and attempted to excel by his own strength, but his constitution gave way under the severe strain, and he returned home a mere physical wreck of his former self. The best medical skill country could afford [sic] was consulted, and all that willing hands and loving hearts could do was exerted for his recovery, but the fell destroyer had seized with a hold that baffled human skill. Death came to him peaceful, and he passed away as calm as the May morning.The friends desire to express their gratitude to the physicians for their efforts in his behalf. They also remember kindly Mrs. Conrad, who, though a stranger, gave all assistance in her power to alleviate the suffering and to console those who mourn a loss that cannot be restored. They also feel themselves under obligations to Green Ruttencutter for his services in officiating at the obsequies.
The large concourse of people that attended the funeral expresses the estimation in which the deceased was held by those with whom he grew up.

LYNDEN E. REYNOLDS
Lynden E. Reynolds, 80, of Rt. 2, St. Marys, died at his residence Friday morning after an extended illness.
Born in Pleasants county, he was a son of the late Frank and Ida Riggs Reynolds and was a veteran of World War I, serving as 1st Lt. in the 78th Infantry. He attended the Baptist Church and was a member and former commander of the American Legion Pleasants Post 79.
A graduate of the School of Agriculture at West Virginia University he was the oldest surviving descendent of some of the original settlers of Pleasants county.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred Pritchard Reynolds; three sons, Lynden, Jr., Columbus, O., Millard, Rt. 2, city and Joseph L. Reynolds, Medway, Mass.; one daughter, Mrs. Hobart (Charlaine) Gilpin, Rt. 2, city; one sister, Mrs. Francse [sic] Snyder of Arlington, Va.; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services were Sunday at 2 p.M. in the Ruttencutter Funeral home by the Rev. Karl Finch, former Baptist minister here and now serving in Elizabeth. He was assisted by the Rev. George McCune. Military services were conducted by Pleasants Post 79 and burial was in the IOOF cemetery.

Millard F. Reynolds, 76, of Rt. 2, St. Marys, died Jan. 31, 2000, at his residence.
He was born July 8, 1923, in St. Marys to the late Lynden Eugene and Mildred Edith PritchardReynolds. He was a 1942 graduate of St. Marys High School and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served two years overseas in England, France and Germany. He was a member of St, Marys United Methodist Church and was retired fromn the former Colin Anderson Center. He was a long time member of the Reynolds Family Association, attending many national meetings, and a long-time member of the National Palatines to America, where he was active in both the West Virginia and Ohio chapters. He was a member of the New Matamoras Historical Society, was an avid West Virginia University Mountaineer sports fan and attended most of the bowl games.
He is survived by his twin sister, Charlaine Gilpin and her husband, Hobart of St. Marys; two brothers, Lynden Reynolds and his wife, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Joseph Reynolds and his wife Margaret, of Willow Springs, N. C.; five nephews, Rex Gilpin of St. Marys, Kay Gilpin of Martinsburg, Greg Reynolds and Stephen Reynolds, both of Massachusetts, and Randolph Reynolds of California; five nieces, Beverly Littman and Patricia Jeffrey, both of Barboursville, W. Va., Stephanie Moran of Massachusetts, Cynthia Roush of North Carolina and Rene Procuick of Pennsylvania; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services were Thursday at St. Marys United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darrel L. Gooden officiating. Burial was in St. Marys IOOF Cemetery with military grave side rites conducted by American Legion Post 79 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 222.

OAKEY REYNOLDS OF BELMONT FATALLY INJURED SUNDAY
Oakey Reynolds, aged 67, Pleasants County farmer was fatally injured last Sunday afternoon about four o'clock when a shot gun accidentally discharged shooting him through the head. Mr. Reynolds resided at Belmont and the accident occurred on a road a short distance from his home.
Reynolds had left his home shortly before the accident, telling his wife that the birds were in the corn destroying it. Hearing a gun fire, members of the family went down the road and found the body.
The discharge of the gun struck the victim near the chin and if the gun had been one inch farther away it would have missed him entirely. His face was badly mangled.
The accident occurring as it did officers deemed an inquest unnecessary.
The deceased was the son of Rodney Reynolds and was a life long resident of Pleasants County. Surviving are his wife, several children and several brothers. The body was removed to Ruttencutter Funeral Home.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. at the home by Rev. J. A. Young of West Union. Burial was made in the St. Marys cemetery.

PHIL REYNOLDS PASSED AWAY
Phillip I. Reynolds, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Reynolds was called by death on Saturday morning, March 3d, after a lingering illness of more than two years. The deceased was one of the county's most substantial young men and his death i is lamented by a large circle of his friends and business associates.
He is survived by his mother, two sisters, Misses Ethel and Frances; and two brothers, Thurman of Marietta; and Lynden, of this city.
The funeral was held at the family home at Grape Island at 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. J. A. Young, pastor of the Baptist church.
His remains were laid to rest in the Odd Fellows cemetery here.
To the bereaved mother, sisters and brothers the sincere sympathy of the community is extended.

Robert Bob Reynolds, 69, of Newport, Ohio, died May 12, 2006, at St. Josephs Hospital, Parkersburg.
He was born June 27, 1936, at Kent, Ohio, a son of the late Bernard Otho and Margaret Gladys Felter Reynolds. He attended the Deucher Baptist Church and retired from American Cyanamid in December 1996, where he had been a welder. He was a member of the American Legion Post 64, Marietta, and was a former member of the Moose and the Masons. His hobbies included woodworking, reading, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Doris Cunningham Reynolds; three daughters, Sherry Taylor and her husband, David, of St. Marys, Terri Rick and her husband, Darwin, of New Carisle, Ohio, and Barbara Schenkel and her husband, Stuart, of Bolivar, Ohio; four grandchildren, David Taylor Jr., Killashandra Rick, Bruce Schenkel and Crystal Rick; three brothers, Bernie Reynolds of Williamstown, Roger Reynolds of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Joe Reynolds of New Matamoras, Ohio; two nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Pastor Delmar Cameron officiating. Interment will be in the Newport Cemetery, Newport, Ohio, with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 64 and VFW Post 5108 of Marietta. Calling hours will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The St. Marys Oracle - 22 June 1889Mrs. Sallie Reynolds, one of the oldest inhabitants of the county, died on the 28th day of June, at the age of 86 years. The funeral took place here on the 29th, Rev. Shingleton officiating. Mrs. Reynolds' maiden name was Sallie La Rue, and she was the wife of Daniel Reynolds, of the Island, whom she survived scarce six months. She leaves a large number of descendants in this and Ritchie counties, down to the fifth generation. The Reynolds families of St. Marys and Middle Island and the Bills family of French creek are grandchildren of Mrs. Reynolds.

Samuel Reynolds
Samuel J. Reynolds, 94. of 114S. Fourth St., Marietta, O. died Tuesday Oct. 31.He was born May 2, 1867, in Pleasants County, a son of the late James Robert [sic] and Mahala Bills Reynolds. He spent his early life in Pleasants County and worked on a farm until 1914, when he moved to Ohio. He worked at Brickwede Furniture Co., for a number of years and attended the Methodist Church.
In 1894 he was married to Ida Ellen Rodgers. She died in 1927.
The last surviving member of his family, he is survived by two sons, Milo L. of Marietta and James Robert of Kalamazoo, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Blake Boylan of Miskegon Hgts.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Two sons, Scott and Clayton, preceeded him in death.
Funeral services were held Friday at Harold Hadley Funeral Home. The Rev. Frank H. Wright officiated, and interment was in Valley Cemetery.

She was born, May 27, 1936, in Tyler County, WV, a daughter of the late Orville and Hazel Livingston Cornell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Marys, WV, and retired after 25 years as a waitress with the Hi-Way Grille. She collected Dolls, enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, and loved Bluegrass Music.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard B. Reynolds, two nieces, Cheryl Wilson and her husband, David of Vienna, WV, and Theresa Lotha and her husband, Dan of Pennsylvania, a cousin, Betty Batten and her husband, Lee of Newport, OH, a sister-in-law, Shirley Greiner and her husband, Charles of Parkersburg, WV, and her best friend, Rachel Smith of St. Marys, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Kay Reynolds, brother, Charles Cornell, and an infant brother.

Garnet L. Rhodes, 87, of Parkersburg died Nov. 12, 2006, at the Ohio Valley Health Care.
She was born in Pleasants County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Theodore and Dora Bills Stephens. She had at one time worked for the American Viscose and later was employed by the Wood County Board of Education working as an assistant cook at the Cedar Grove Elementary School. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sowing, gardening, camping, fishing, and above all, spending time with her family. She was a member of the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, James William Rhodes Sr. of Parkersburg; her children, Donald Lee Rhodes and his wife, Rhonda, of Walker, Sharon Deem and her husband, Joseph, of Mineral Wells, and James Rhodes and his wife, Brenda, of Harrisville; her grandchildren, Don Rhodes Jr., Donna Sue Williams, Douglas Rhodes, Geoffrey Rhodes, Leesa Dill, Missy Newland, Rochelle Hickman, Rebecca Moore and Jessica Elias; 16 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Opal Burcham of Sun City, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by one infant son; and her sisters, Gladys Lemley, Georgia Lemley, Edna Wigal and Wilma Leach.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with the Rev. Brian Long officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Died Suddenly
James L. Rhodes died suddenly late Saturday evening at his room at the Exchange hotel. He was, perhaps, 56 years of age. His home was formerly Titusville, Pa. He had been working around the Columbia Café for several months. He was taken ill last week, being threatened with pneumonia. None of his friends were alarmed, even he was unconcerned thinking that his ailment would soon pass away. Saturday afternoon, late he was left alone in his room for a short time. Upon the return of the attendant he was found sitting upright in his chair , appearing asleep - but it was that everlasting sleep that knows no awakening.His acquaintances gave him a nice burial and he was laid to rest Monday afternoon in the St. Marys cemetery. Many of his friends came down from Sistersville to attend the obsequies.
It is understood that he had friends living in Whitesville, N. Y., but none knew of any immediate relatives and no inquiries were made.

The deceased was twice married and is survived by a daughter, Mrs. W. H. Brown, four sons, Charles Cornell of this city, James S. Cornell of Smithville, Ritchie county, and L. D. Cornell of Orwell, Ohio.
She was universally loved and esteemed, having a kindly and generous disposition and her death is regretted by a very wide circle of friends.

E. Cliff Richards, 80, of Parkersburg, formerly of Ellenboro, W.Va., departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Parkersburg following a long illness.
Cliff was born on Nov. 28, 1926, at Greenwood, W.Va., a son of the late Casper Cap and Margie Rogers Richards. He was retired from the B&O Railroad after 36 years with the tunnel gang as a stone mason and was a member of the Brotherhood of Rights of Way. He was a member of the Bonds Creek Freewill Baptist Church at Ellenboro.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Louise Richards; sons, Terry Richards of Mineral Wells and Bob Richards of Ellenboro; daughters, Debby Collins of St. Marys, W.Va., and Carol Riddle of Pullman, W.Va.; brothers, Melvin Richards of Harrisville, Washburn Community, W.Va., and Paul Richards of Mt. Alto, W.Va.; sisters, Shirley Moore of Ellenboro, Sue Hornish of Valley Mills, W.Va., and Patty Richards of Parkersburg; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Boy Killed
By passenger Train Number 15 Last Saturday at this Place
Bert Richardson, aged 17, was run down and killed in the yard above the depot Saturday morning by passenger train No. 15 south bound. He was not killed outright but lingered along until in the afternoon. His right leg was cut off and his left was broken below the knees. He was otherwise badly bruised.
He was walking down the track and stepped out of the way of a work extra on the main track directly in front of the passenger. Both engines blew their whistles vigorously but he did not heed the warning and the passenger train was so close upon him that to stop the engine was impossible. His body was turned over to O. C. Ogdin, the undertaker.

Joan Marie (Wells) Richards, 72, of Ontario, Calif., formerly of Pleasants Ridge, WV, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005 in Kaiser of Fontana Hospital.
She was born May 24, 1933 in Pleasants County, a daughter of Ollie Coffin (Kidder).
Joan is also preceded in death by her husband, Stan Richards and grandparents, Edwin and Molly Kidder of Pleasants Ridge, with whom she resided for her first 11 years and attended Pt. Lookout School.
Surviving are four children, Melinda Richards of Ontario, Calif.; Gail (Bruce) Inouye of Azusa; Mark and Stacy Richards of Fontania, Calif. Three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, all of Calif.; Aunt Junita Patterson and family of Middlebourne; several cousins including Phyllis Northcraft of Pt. She was the beloved wife of 46 years to Jim Richards of St. Marys; and mother of William (Bill) and wife, Donna Richards, of Sistersville, W.Va.
She was a retired CNA of Pennsylvania and owned and operated Richards Grocery at Pleasant Hill for 17 years. She enjoyed being with family and friends and doing crafts in her spare time.

Earl M. Mick Richards, 54, of Ellenboro, W.Va., departed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Columbus, Ohio.
Mick was born Nov. 29, 1951, at Parkersburg, the son of Earl C. and Louise Richards of Parkersburg. He was a graduate of Pennsboro High School with the Class of 1970 and had been employed by Cytec Inc., Willow Island Plant, with the waste water department. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Ellenboro.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marcia L. Lt. Cmdr. William E. Richards, U.S, Navy retired, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in South Carolina.
Mr. Richards was born in Princeton, W.Va., a son of the late William and Ruby Richards. He served in the Korean War and was a member of the VFW and past Lt. Governor of South Carolina Kiwanis. Mr. Richards was also a member of Surfside United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Richards of Deerfield; one son, William E. Richards III of Deerfield; two daughters, Victoria A. WOODSFIELD - Louise Richardson, 81, of the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield, (formerly of Graysville) died at 6:10 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 9, 2005) at the center.
She was born at Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on May 11, 1923, a daughter of the late Floyd and Bertha Skinner Barber.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Halls Chapel Church of God at Wingett Run, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a foster parent of 23 foster children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur D. Richardson, on March 15, 1998; one son; one foster daughter and one sister.

Augusta Riddle, 90, passed away July 18, 2008.
She was born Aug. 6, 1917, in Stumptown, W.Va., to Judson E. and Naoma Stump Riddle. She lived in both West Virginia and Ohio. While living in West Virginia, she attended The First Baptist Church of St. Marys. During World War II, she worked for Goodyear Aircraft installing windscreens for Corsair airplanes. She retired from Eaton Corporation in Copley, Ohio, where she lived for many years.
Augusta is survived by sisters, Stella Reed and Pauline Riddle Gainer; and brothers, Arden and Paul Riddle.
She was preceded in death by brother, Alpha Riddle; and sister, Geniva Riddle Conrad.
There will be no services, burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Akron, Ohio.

Rife-Lizzie May Rife, wife of Frank Rife, departed this life April 4th, 1902.
The deceased was born on Waverly, Pike county, Ohio, but moved with her parents to Circleville, in the same state, when but a child. There she spent her entire life until she came to St. Marys about 15 months ago. She was married to Mr. Rife nearly 13 years ago. Of this happy union 5 children were born, of whom 3 survive.
Her maiden life was happy and as she expressed it, "without a cloud."
Sister Rife had a sunny disposition and those quiet virtues which so adorn domestic life. Throughout her entire sickness she never murmured nor complained, but waited with quiet resignation the summons which she realized would call her into the higher life of the Spirit.
It was the privilege of the writer to talk with her many times in her last illness, and she always spoke with absolute confidence of the future. indeed, as she neared the tender land of the invisible world, her confidence grew into knowledge until she said, "there is no doubt, no dark cloud."
Sister Rife was a member of the Methodist Protestant church, having joined on profession of faith.
A short memorial service was held at the house Saturday morning of April 5, for the benefit of the many friends to whom she had become endeared before and during her affliction. The body was then taken to Circleville for interment.

J. Eugene Riffle Sr., 77, of Finch Community, Route 1, St. Marys, WV, died Jan. 5, 2002, at his residence.
He was born June 7, 1924, at Weston, WV. Mr. Riffle was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service, was veteran of World War II and was a farmer.
He is survived by two sons, James A. Riffle of Washington, WV, and Jarrett Riffle Jr. of Oxford, WI.; two daughters, Belinda Ogle of Pigeon Forge, TN., and Susie Riffle of Ludowici, GA.; one sister, Clara Belle Liebrand of Washington, WV; one bother, Ronnie Riffle of OH; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Riffle was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Elias and Rettie Dorcas Wilson Riffle; four brothers, Roy, William, Edward and Charles Riffle; and one sister, Eva Jane Riffle.

Cynthia Ann Riggs, 38, of Minneapolis, Minn. was killed July 2, 2003 by a falling tree during a storm while camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness near Ely, Minn.
Her fiance David Sagula suffered injuries to his face and shoulder.
She was born July 7, 1964, daughter of Bill and Connie Riggs of Valley Forge, Pa.
Her background spanned the University of Georgia (undergraduate), Villanova (master's degree) and the University of Wyoming (PhD). She had been the clinical director of Sentinel House, which serves people with severe and persistent mental illnesses.]
Survivors, in addition to her parents is and fiance, include a sister, Riggs-Le Picart of New York City; and grandfather Blaine Riggs of St. Marys.
Memorial services were July 8 at the Minnesota Zon Meditation Center in Minneapolis.She and her fiance had planned to marry in December.

Cynthia Ann Riggs had the kind of contagious optimism that drew people to her, even if it meant following her to Patagonia.
"That was one of the trips we went on -- to Patagonia, in Chile," said her friend Jennie Leskala. "She convinced me we could trek, without training, in the Andes Mountains.
"It rained, it snowed, but we kept marching. Her famous line was, 'How hard can it be?' I'll miss that the most about her."
Riggs, a Minneapolis psychologist who would have celebrated her 39th birthday Monday, died last week while camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness with her fiancé, David Sagula, 42, also a Minneapolis psychologist. Inside a tent, they were caught in violent straight-line winds on the night of July 2.
A 100-year-old red pine, 16 inches in diameter, was uprooted and fell on the tent, grazing Sagula and knocking him unconscious and crushing Riggs, said Chip Elkins, a law-enforcement officer with the U.S. Forest Service who assisted the Lake County Sheriff's Office with rescue and recovery.
Sagula, bruised on the face and shoulder, said he "woke from a daze with a bad headache" and saw that the tree had pinned Riggs.
"I tried to move it -- I tried many, many times," he said Monday night from his home. "I tried to move her sleeping bag from under it, but nothing. I was panicky. It was surreal."
Sagula said he could not find Riggs' pulse. The couple, engaged two months ago, planned to marry in December.
"Part of me knew she was gone. Part of me could not believe it," he said.
Riggs' cell phone didn't work, so Sagula set off from Basswood Lake -- on the Canadian border, about 20 miles northeast of Ely, Minn. -- for help. Eventually, he found campers who called for help.
Elkins, who flew in on a float plane, said, "This kind of thing doesn't happen often, but it does happen."
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Minnesota Zen Meditation Center, 3343 E. Calhoun Pkwy., in Minneapolis. Riggs is survived by her sister, Susan, of New York City, and her parents, Bill and Connie, from suburban Philadelphia.
Riggs -- whose academic background spanned the University of Georgia (undergraduate), Villanova (master's) and the University of Wyoming (Ph.D.) -- had been clinical director of Sentinel House, which serves people with severe and persistent mental illnesses. She had begun working as a volunteer in that area when she was in high school.
"It was her life-long passion, to help those that society has cast aside," Sagula said. "She was intelligent and beautiful, and she could have worked with the rich if she wanted to take that route.
"But that wasn't her. She wanted to work with those who'd been left behind."

Deborah K. Riggs, 52, of Belmont, W.Va., died April 11, 2010, at the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.
She was born Aug. 28, 1957, in Newton Falls, Ohio, a daughter of Betty Eddy Parker of Newport, Ohio, and the late William Parker.
She was a Baptist, was a graduate of Frontier High School, and had been an Insurance Agent with American General Life and Accident Insurance Company. Her interests included flower gardening, rescuing animals, being outdoors, cooking and camping, four wheeling, being at family gatherings, and most important her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, David Riggs; daughter, Brandy (Shawn) Hardman of Waverly, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Jonathan Hardman, Shyanne Hardman and David Hardman; three step children, Dusta (Billy) Stull of St. Marys, Melina (Alan) Britton of Belmont and David Riggs II of St. Marys; five step grandchildren, Sarah Stull, Josh Britton, Ryan Britton, Breanna Riggs and Austin Riggs; sisters, Shirley Holshu and Vickki Swartz, both of Newport, Carol Diddle of Waverly, and Mary (Leslie) Patterson of Marietta; brothers, Robert Parker of Newport and Pat Parker of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born February 17, 1923, in Independence Township, in Washington County, OH, a daughter of the late Harry and Blanche Jones Yost. She was a member of the Deucher Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Joe Riggs and his wife, Nancy of Marietta, OH, and Roger Riggs and his wife, Susie of Lucasville, OH, one grandson, Michael Riggs of London, OH, two sisters, Sue Rechsteiner and her husband, Bob of Columbus, OH, and Donna Booth and her husband, Dean of Newport, OH, one brother, Harry Yost, Jr. of Michigan, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Riggs on June 26, 2008, two sisters, Bernice Hoff and Betty Murphy, and one brother, Millard Yost. Services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2008, at 11 A. M. at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV with Pastor Ivan Smitley officiating. E. Colleen (Harding) Riggs, 71, of Newport, Ohio, died April 13, 2006, at 8:12 p.m. at the Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 15, 1935, in Pleasants County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lawrence E. and Edith (McFarland) Harding. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School Class of 1953, was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and held various positions in the church through out the years. She was past president of the Helping Hands Womens Group of the church. She was a past member of the Womens Auxiliary of the Newport Fire Department.
She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Riggs, whom she married Nov. 21, 1954; two sons, Ralph D. Riggs and his wife, Tammy, of New Haven, W.Va., Jason M. Riggs and his wife, Taffy, of Reno, Ohio; two daughters, Karen Riggs of Marietta, Sally E. Trifiletti and her husband, Joseph, of Conway Springs, Kans.; seven grandchildren, Meredith and Scott Riggs of New Haven, W.Va., Nicholas , Anthony and Carrie Trifiletti of Conaway Springs, Kans., Jasmine and Hannah Riggs of Reno, Ohio; two brothers, Dwight E. Harding and his wife, Marilyn, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Darrell E. Harding and his wife, Donna, of St. Marys; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia A and David Riggs of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Edie and Doug Taylor.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Newport United Methodist Church with Pastor David Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Newport Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4-9 p.m. Sunday at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys and from noon-1 p.m. Monday at the church.

PARKERSBURG E. Marie Riggs, 93, of Arabian Drive, Parkersburg, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday (May 16, 2006) in St. Josephs Hospital, Parkersburg.
She was born Nov. 7, 1912, at Archers Fork, Washington County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Moses G. and Hazel Hopple Edgar. She had attended the public schools in Newport and was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church.
On Oct. 13, 1938, she was married to James Howard Riggs, who passed away on July 17, 1952. She is survived by one daughter, Marlene Cooper and her husband, Arthur; two granddaughters, Melissa Defibaugh and her husband, Steve, and Lisa Cooper Wilkinson and her husband, Ken; and one great-grandson, Shawn Defibaugh, all of Parkersburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta with interment in East Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. James Riggs will officiate. Friends may call from 2 p.m. today until the hour of the service at the funeral home. The family will be present to greet friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Mrs. Eleanor June Martin Riggs, 87, of Salisbury, N.C., and formerly of Vienna, W.Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at the Brian Center Nursing and Rehabilitation of Salisbury.
Born September 13, 1919, in Flatfork, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Herman L and Dessie Faires Martin. She graduated from Cairo High School, Cairo, W.Va., and attended classes at the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio.
While residing in Dayton, Mrs. Riggs worked as a secretary for the Army Air Force at Wright Field. For many years, she was employed in the billing department at the St. Josephs Hospital in Parkersburg and later working as a receptionist/secretary for Dr. Michael Santer, until her retirement.
She was a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church in Vienna, where she participated in the womens circle and had been in earlier years an active member of the Cairo Lodge of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Riggs in 1978; and her brothers; Ralph, Ronald, Herman Gerald, Harold Duwane and Eugene Martin.
Mrs. Riggs had been residing with her daughter and only child, Carmen Shepler of Salisbury for the past 4 years. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Cliff Shepler of Greensboro, Gwen Shepler of Burlington and Annie Shepler of Chapel Hill.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, and at other times the family will be at the home of her daughter.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Thomas L. Griffis, minister of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. An additional memorial service will be held at a later date at Wayside United Methodist Church, Vienna, with interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg.

Mrs. Elizabeth Alene Riggs, wife of Donald Riggs, passed away Thursday evening April 23, 1953 in the St. Joseph Hospital, Parkersburg after a long illness.
She was born in Pleasants County May 9, 1909, the daughter of the late Victor Roden, Sr. and Martha McFarland Roden, age 43 years, 11 months and 14 days.
She is survived by her husband, two sons, Eugene, serving with the United States Navy, and James at home; one daughter. Martha, at home; her mother, Mrs. Victor Roden, Sr.. Of St. Marys; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs Charles Matchett, Walter Roden, William Roden and Ester Roden all of Steubenville , O.; Mrs T. O. Carmen and Victor Roden, Jr. of Weirton; and Mrs. Robert Davis of St. Mrarys.
Three children preceded her in death.
Services were held at the George Street Church of Christ of which she was a member at 2:30 P. M. Sunday. Rev C. O. Dotson officiating. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F cemetery.

Eugene N. Brandy Riggs
Eugene Nelson "Brandy" Riggs, 80, of St. Marys, passed away Sept. 12, 2010, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg. He was born Feb. 2, 1930, a son of the late Donald E. "Brandy" and Elizabeth Roden Riggs.
He was a 1949 graduate of St. Marys High School and a member of the undefeated football team his senior year. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and he was retired from Union Carbide after 32 years of service. Brandy lived several places throughout his life, but only one place was home, St. Marys. He loved the community and spent several years teaching sports to the youth of Pleasants County as a coach. While living in St. Marys, he was a member of the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ and more recently the 36th Street Church of Christ in Vienna.
He is survived by his children: Mark Riggs and his wife, Schlea, of Baytown, Texas, Jay Riggs and his wife, Sharon, of Lafayette, Tenn., Dr. Elizabeth Riggs and her husband, Tod Chambers, of New Orleans, La., Stacey Riggs Wilson of Kenner, La.; his grandchildren: Shane Hargraves, Dustin and Brittley Riggs, Brandy Hoffman and her husband, Phil, Michael Arcenaux, Nicholas and Adam Wilson; his great grandchildren: Gage Hargraves, Gabriella, Isabella, Jake and Landon Hoffman; one brother, James Dean Riggs Sr., of St. Marys; one sister, Martha Riggs Rogers of Youngstown, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Fern Delong Riggs. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ, St. Marys with Evangelists Tom Butterfield, Chris Mullins and Mark Mason officiating. Miss Florence Riggs, daughter of E. R. Riggs, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Girard, at Danville, Ill., last Sunday of inflamation of the stomach.
The remains ere were brought back to this city for interment, arriving Wednesday, accompanied by Mrs. Girard.
The funeral will occur this afternoon at 2 o'clock, interment in the St. Marys cemetery.

Floyd A. Riggs
Floyd A. Riggs, 77, of Vienna died June 3, 2001, at St. Josephs Hospital.
He was born Dec. 9, 1923, in St. Marys, a son of the late Walter and Estella Belleville Riggs. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from the purchasing department of Borg Warner after 25 years with the company. He was a member of the Parkersburg Masonic Lodge 169 AF & AM and was a former member of the Musicians Union. He enjoyed music and played a number of instruments. He was a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Dearth Riggs, whom he married on March 12, 1947; one brother, Wayne Riggs of Akron; one sister, Eula Fenton of Canton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Lawrence and Don Riggs; and two sisters, Gladys Thompson and Opel OBrian.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, the Rev. Sandra Runion officiating. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by Masonic Lodge 169. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today.

Glen H. Riggs, 78, of Pennsboro, W.Va., departed this life on Monday, May 22, 2006, at Harrisville, W.Va.
Glen was born on Aug. 23, 1927, at Pennsboro, the son of the late Martin L. Sr. and Grace Hinton Riggs. In his younger years, he had been a farm hand working for the Barnard Family near Pennsboro.
He is survived by a brother, Blaine E. Riggs of Pennsboro; sister, Betty Helm of Pennsboro; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Riggs Jr.; and a sister, Phyllis Lambert.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Eugene Brandy Riggs; two sons, Mark Riggs and his wife, Schlea, of Baytown, Texas, and Jay Riggs and his wife, Sharon, of West Moreland, Tenn.; and two daughters, Elizabeth Riggs DDS and her husband, Tod Chambers, of New Orleans, La., and Stacy Wilson of Kenner, La. She was the loving grandmother to Shane, Brandi and her husband, Phillip, Dustin, Mikey, Brittany, Nick and Adam; was the great-grandmother to Gabriella Isabella, Gage and Jake; and one sister, Shirley Dotson and her husband, Dale, of Vienna.
She was a member of the 36th Street Church of Christ in Vienna, was a homemaker who loved to cook and share her sewing talents with everyone she knew.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Carmel, Dan, Max and Homer; and three sisters, Elsie, Betty and Ruth.

Paul D. Riggs
Paul D. Riggs, 75, of Newport, Ohio, passed away 12:39 p.m. April 30, 2007, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 16, 1932, in Marietta, a son of the late Homer S. and Carrie (Matheny) Riggs. Mr. Riggs was a graduate of Newport High School Class of 1951. He entered the United States Navy serving four years aboard the Destroyer, U.S.S. Ingerham during the Korea Conflict. He was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church. He retired from Union Carbide Corporation at Long Reach, W.Va., after 36 1/2 years. Paul was very active in the Newport Community. He was a charter member of the Newport Volunteer Fire Department serving as past assistant fire chief, and enjoyed working every Monday night at their bingo fund raiser. He helped established the Newport Water and Sewer System, where he held both president and vice-president positions. He had coached Little League and Pony League Baseball Teams for a total of six years, and served two years as commissioner of the St. Marys - Newport Area Little League. He also was a member of the VFW. His hobbies included gardening and golfing.
On Nov. 21, 1954, he married E. Colleen (Harding) Riggs who preceded him in death on April 13, 2006. He is survived by two sons, Ralph D. Riggs and his wife, Tammy, of New Haven, W.Va., Jason M. Riggs and his wife, Taffy, of Reno, Ohio; two daughters, Karen L. Riggs of Marietta and Sally E. CORONA, Calif. Richard Dean Riggs, a resident of Corona, Calif., for 43 years, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at the age of 83.
Richard was born May 22, 1924, in St. Marys, W.Va. He worked as a salesman. Richard served his country during World War II, receiving the rank of private first class in the U.S. Army as well as three Bronze stars and a Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma Jean Riggs of Corona; three sons, Ronald (Anna) Riggs of Greer, S.C., Jeff (Maureen) Riggs of Riverside, Calif., and Steve (Amelia) Riggs of Corona, Calif.; three brothers, Dave Riggs of Newport, Larry Riggs of North California, and Tom Riggs of Denver, N.C.; four sisters, Jean Ewing of Waterford, Ohio, Sue Holpp of Reno, Ohio, Eleanor Clark of Beverly, Ohio, and Ruth Patterman of Alexandria, La.; six grandsons; two granddaughters; seven great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
A visitation will be held at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Arlington Mortuary in Riverside, Calif., with a graveside service to follow at 10:45 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery staging area four.

W. Baine Riggs, 95, of St. Marys, WV, died, March 23, 2007, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, OH.
He was born, May 16, 1911, in St. Marys, WV, a son of the late Thurman and Cora Nicholson Riggs. He was a member of the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ, was retired from American Cyanamid (Cytec Industries), and had worked previously as an auto mechanic with the former Davis Motor Company. He was very active with the Pleasants County Senior Citizens. He worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base working on and repairing bombers used in World War II.
He is survived by two sons, Bill Riggs and his wife, Connie of Chesterbrook, PA, and Richard Riggs and his wife, Jane Ann of Lexington, KY, three grandchildren, Susan Riggs LePicart and her husband, Jean-Christophe of New York City, Jennifer Riggs of Lexington, KY, and Jonathan Riggs of Los Angeles, CA, two great granddaughters, Helena Lepicart and Eugenie LePicart both of New York City, a sister-in-law, Sarah Riggs of St. Marys, WV, and a niece, Phyllis DeMoll of Vienna, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Massie Campbell Riggs, a granddaughter, Dr. Cynthia A. Riggs, and a brother, George Riggs.
A celebration of his life will be held Monday, March 26, 2006, at 11 A. M. at the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ, St. Marys, WV with Evangelist Dan Kessinger officiating. He was the owner operator of Wayne Riggs Body and Fender, specializing in custom motorcycles; was also employed by Graham Ford; and a member of the Coventry-Akron Masonic, Lodge 83, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason.

William Dempsey Riggs, 75, of West Palm Beach, Fla. passed away Saturday,. March 20, 2004.
Mr. Riggs was an area resident since 1964 coming from St. Marys. He was a retired member of Iron Workers Local 402.
William was survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen; two daughters, Diana Deal and her husband, Michael, of Butler, Fla. and Barbara Gerwe of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Mabel Boone of Rockport, Mary Green of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and Uldene Criswell of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, Steven Berga and his wife, Tammy; Sheri Harmon and her husband, Robert, Brian Gerwe and his wife Shannon and Daniel Riggs; one greatgrandson, Chase Gerwe.

Helen Rinehart, 89, of Cairo, W.Va., departed this life on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Parkersburg.
Helen was born on Feb. 5, 1918, at Schultz in Pleasants County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Robert and Laura Matheny Blouir. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by four nieces and two nephews.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Earl D. "Daub" Rinehart; brothers, Howard and Hernan Blouir; an infant brother; and a sister, Hazel Nicely.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Raiguel Funeral Home, Cairo, with interment in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Parkersburg. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Larry E. Riser
Larry E. Riser, 58, of Ellenboro, W.Va., departed this life on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Clarksburg, W.Va.
Larry was born on Sept. 12, 1949, near St. Marys, W.Va., a son of Freeda Adams Riser of Waverly and the late Marl Riser. He attended Williamstown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. He had been employed by the former Mid-Atlantic Glass of Ellenboro for 10 years and owned, along with his wife, the Silver Star Restaurant of Ellenboro, W.Va. He was a member of the Ellenboro Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy Ann Meeks Riser; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Miranda Riser of Harrisville; brothers, Bob and James Riser, both of Parkersburg, and Joseph Riser of Waverly; sisters, Ida Bee of Lubeck and Connie Silket of Valley Mills, W.Va.; and grandchildren, Zane, Zephan, Gracia and Luci Riser.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, David R. Riser.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with Pastor Ron Blevins officiating. Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Ellenboro, W.Va. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Marl Riser, 84, of Waverly died March 18, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Wood County, a son of the late Charles M. and Ida Pratt Riser. He was a member of the Ingram Ridge Community Church, was retired from the American Cyanamid Co. after 34 years, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. His hobbies included hunting and hunting ginseng.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Freda Adams Riser; six children, Bob Riser and his wife, Wanda, James Riser and his wife, Reva, all of Parkersburg, Larry Riser and his wife, Judy, of Ellenboro, W.Va., Joe Riser and his wife, Anna, of Waverly, Ida Bee and her husband, Bill, of Belleville and Connie Silket and her husband, Everett, of Waverly; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin Riser of Parkersburg and Paul Riser of Walker; one sister, Janie Talkington of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters and four brothers.

Lucy Mae Ritchie, 80, of Front Street, New Matamoras, died Oct. 28, 2005, at Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville.
She was born May 29, 1925, at Bens Run, a daughter of Elsie J. and Anna Belle Neff Smith.
She was a member of Matamoras Church of Nazarene. She was a housewife.
She is survived by her son, Dennis R. Ritchie and his wife, Teri, of Sardis, OH; six grandchildren, Steve Ritchie of Bloomfield, OH Shawna Howell of Bloomfield, Shelley Arnold of Stockport, Shannon Jameson of New Martinsville, Mindy Billiter of Sardis, and Adam Ritchie; 12 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Fred Smith and his wife, Beulah, of New Matamoras; and two sisters, Barbara Williamson of Sardis and Mary Boron of New Matamoras.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Howard Ritchie, on Jan. 18, 1994; and one son, David Lee Ritchie, on March 20; 1998.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Hadley Funeral Home, New Matamoras Chapel, with David Hyde officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

Clyde L. Roberts, 79, of Sisterville died May 2, 2005, at home.
He was born May 22, 1925, in Kidwell, W.Va., a son of the late Clyde Earl and Madge Haught Roberts. He retired from the Quaker State Refinery in St. Marys. He was a member of the LaZears Chapel United Methodist Church, BPOE 333 of Sisterville and VFW Post 6327 of Sistersville.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth V. Shuman Roberts; daughter, Linda K. (Walter "Tom") South of Sistersville; brother, John E. Roberts of Middlebourne, W.Va.; sisters, Frances Gaiser of Sistersville and Ruth Swartzfager of Grantsville, Utah; half-sister, Virginia Sallee of Marshfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at LaZears Chapel Cemetery, Middlebourne, with the Rev. Jean VanCamp officiating. There will be no visitation.

David Paul Roberts, 53, of Parkersburg passed away Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Grantsville, W.Va., in 1952.
He is survived by his wife, Debbi; one daughter, Tracy Dawn Roberts of Parkersburg; a son, Travis Dean Roberts of Parkersburg; and a "grandpuppy" named Buckley whom he loved very much.
He is the son of Wilma Roberts Brannon and Rickey Brannon of Parkersburg. His father, Gerald Edward Roberts, preceded him in death in July of 1962. He is also survived by three brothers and their wives, Michael Lowell and Suzi Roberts of Phoenix, Ariz., Kenneth Edward and Kathy Roberts of Pooler, Ga., and Rickey and Gail Brannon Jr. of Westminster, Mass.; and one sister, Reta Kay Roberts of Fernandina Beach, Fla. David also had many nieces and nephews.
He was a retired electrician from PSEG-Waterford. He also worked for several years at the Pleasants Power Station as an electrician and a supervisor. Mr. Roberts served in the Navy from 1974 through 1977. He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Stumptown.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville. The Rev. Harry Sears will officiate. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1948, in Wood County, a son of Phyllis A. Wines Roberts Kohrs of Parkersburg and the late Lester K. Roberts. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the Paralyzed Veterans of America. He attended the Celebration Center Church of St. Marys, W.Va.
He is survived by his mother; his former wife, Deloris J. Roberts of Marietta; three sons, Jeremy Roberts and his wife, Amanda, of Parkersburg, J. Aaron Roberts and his wife, Olivia, of Marietta and Jared A. Roberts of Marietta; three grandchildren, Alexis Dawn Roberts, Jordan A. Roberts and Liza Grace Roberts; one stepgranddaughter, Mellisa N. Grady E. Robertson, 83, of St. Marys, W.Va., died Aug. 17, 2009, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta.
He was born July 6, 1926, in Pulaski, Va., a son of the late Grady Emerson and Effie Haven Robertson. He was a member of the St. Marys Nazarene Church and was retired from the Ormet Corporation. He was a bricklayer by trade and owned his own construction company for over 20 years. He enjoyed gardening and his work.
He is survived by sons, Jerry Robertson in Texas and Mike Robertson in Washington State; children, Angela Bania of Cambridge, Ohio, Pamela Ruble and her husband, Terry, of St. Marys, W.Va., Grady Glenn Robertson of Washington, N.J., Sherry Lundy of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Douglass Robertson of Dayton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren, including Emily Prim who he helped raise; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Hale of Salem, Va.; stepchildren, Nan Childers of St. Marys, Penny Bird and her husband, Bill, of Friendly, W.Va., and Butch Damron of St. Marys; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; a close brother-in-law, Larry Bennett and his wife, Donna; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard M. "Dick" Robey, 81, of St. Marys died Nov. 28, 2005, at the Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston.
He was born June 23, 1924, at Pennsboro, W.Va., a son of the late Jefferson Robey and Fay Chapman Robey Ayers. He was a 1942 graduate of Pullman High School, received his degree in agriculture from WVU in 1950, and worked 10 years for the Farmers Home Administration. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines in the South Pacific. He was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church, a member and Past Master of the St. Marys Lodge 41 A.F. & A.M. He was retired from Union Carbide, Sistersville Plant after 30 years. He was an avid sports fan and golfer. He had a great love for people, enjoyed his family and friends. He embraced life and loved to laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Stanley Robey; one son, Dave Robey of St. Marys; one brother, Don Robey and his wife, Dorothy, of Romney, W.Va.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Charley Robey in 1981 and his stepfather, Howard Ayers.

Arthur E. Robinson, 84, of Rt. 1, Petroleum, Ritchie County, W.Va., departed this life on Friday, April 29, 2005, at his residence following a short illness.
Mr. Robinson was born Oct. 14, 1920, at Petroleum, to the late George and Catherine Parr Robinson. He retired from Langford Motors in Belmont, W.Va. He had owned the Sunoco Station at Glendale, Ritchie County, W.Va., and worked in the timber industry. He loved to garden and share produce with his friends and neighbors. Mr. Robinson was a World War II Army veteran and member of the V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Julia Eileen Robinson of Petroleum; son, Donald E. Robinson of Clayton, N.C.; grandchildren, Misty Deal and husband, Matt, and Donald Robinson II; and special friends, Homer and Maggie Wright.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by brothers, Lonnie, Ernest and James Robinson; and sisters, Clara Cornell, Hazel Hawkins and Jean Perdue.

Clarice A. Robinson, 83 of Parkersburg, died Feb. 10, 2005 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.
She was born March 27, 1921, in Cairo, the daughter of the late Myrtle Layfield. She graduated from Cairo High School in 1939. She worked from 1942-45 as a riveter at the Firestone Aircraft Division, Akron, OH. She was formerly a Ritchie County Magistrate and worked as an office supervisor at Nello-leer in North Carolina. She was a member of Harris-Ritchie VFW Post 3554 Ladies Auxiliary, and she participated in many activities at Colonial House, Parkersburg, and with family and friends. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Parkersburg.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diane and Jeff Baker of Parkersburg, Ronda Robinson of Westminster, MD, and Claudette and Maurice Cayton of Spring Hill, TN; one foster son, Denzil Lamp of Belmont; one brother, Dearman Waller of Reidsville, NC; two grandchildren, Douglas Cayton of Spring Hill, TN and Leslie Bass of Columbia, TN; six greatgrandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Claude W. Robinson.
Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville with Dr. Kurt Busiek officiating. Burial followed in the Cairo IOOF Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 8, 1920, at Meadville, Tyler County, W.Va., a son of the late Samuel Dempsey and Effie Blyne Wells Robinson. He was a member of the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ, a 1937 graduate of Tyler County High School and was a long-time barber in St. Marys.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Bickel Robinson; two sons, Timothy Robinson and his wife, Barbara, of Tampa, Fla., and Jeffrey Robinson and his wife, Carrie, of Belmont; four grandchildren, Mark Robinson of Alachua, Fla., Michelle Robinson Temples of Ocala, Fla., Melissa Robinson of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Elizabeth McCutheon of Fairmont, W.Va.; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa and C. Otto Harry "Robbie" Robinson Jr., 90, died Jan. 5, 2008 at Salem Township Hospital in Salem, IL.
He was born Nov. 28, 1917 in Augusta, KS, the son of Otto Harry Robinson Sr. and Lillian Ruth Wheeler Robinson formerly of Bridgeport, IL, and St. Marys.
Robinson was a retired machinist with Jiffy Manufacturing Company in Salem. He graduated from Bridgeport High School and as a young man worked in the oil fields of southern Illinois, He was a veteran and served during World War II in the United States Navy and was stationed at the Naval Station in Great Lakes, IL; the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL; and Lambert field's Naval Air . Reserve Station in St. Louis, MO, where he was an instructor. He spent time as an aircraft technician and working on airplanes up and down the eastern seaboard during WWII. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a trophy winning bass fisherman in southern Illinois and loved the outdoors.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Reba Ellen Taylor Robinson who was originalIy from BigIervilie, PA; a sister, Helen Cornelia Robinson Wirth of Allendale, IL; a brother, Leonard Dale Robinson of Bridgeport IL; and a son-in-law, William Steven Anton Brewer of St. Louis, MO.
Survivors include one sister, Emaline Robinson Cupp; a son, Bruce Harry Robinson and wife Brenda Hays Robinson of Sanford, FL; three daughters, Roberta Ruth Robinson Horita and husband John Horita of Hilo. HI, Marilyn Ann Robinson Royal and husband A. Richard Royal of Camilla, Gin and Marla Kay Robinson Brewer of St Louis, Missouri. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Joel Fredrick Engelhardt of St. Louis, MO, Sean Keone Horita of Seattle, WA, Maile Ellen Horita of Chicago, IL, Christopher William Brewer of Phoenix, AZ. and Amy Taylor Brewer of St. Louis, MO. He is also survived by nieces and nephews in the Bridgeport and Robinson, IL areas and many other relatives in and around Biglerville, PA.
A memorial service was Jan. 19 at the Salem Presbyterian Church Saturday, with burial in East Lawn Cemetery.

Emma E. Robinson, 86, of Gainesville, Fla., formerly of St. Marys, died Nov. 20, 2005, at the Oak Hamock Nursing Home, Gainesville.
She was born Jan. 2, 1919, at Wick, W.Va., a daughter of the late Clinton Arnett and Louise Park Arnett Elder. She was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church, a member and past matron of St. Marys Chapter 31 Order of the Eastern Star, grand chaplain of West Virginia Eastern Star from 1983 to 1984 and she was past grand representative of the Eastern Star. She was a 1936 graduate of Tyler County High School. She had worked for the former A. H. Stanley Store and had been a cook for the Pleasants County Board of Education.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William A. and Mary Robinson of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Kenneth Lauterer of Gainesville, Fla.; grandchildren, Deborah Twigg, William A. Robinson Jr., Kenneth Lauterer Jr., and Kristin Buch; great-grandchildren, Christopher Twigg, Caroline Twigg, Emily Lauterer, Megan Lauterer, Gerrit Buch and Savannah Buch; brother-in-law, Orland Robinson and his wife, Doris, of St. Marys; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Katherine Katie Huggins Robinson
Katherine Katie Huggins Robinson, 87, of Marietta, died June 19, 2001, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Florence and Charles Barth.
She was born July 24, 1913, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Craig and Eva Wade Coen. She had attended Williamstown High School and had been a licensed practical nurse for more than 35 years. She worked as a private duty nurse in Marietta, Parkersburg and in private homes. She enjoyed quilting, animals and flowers. She was a member of the Williamstown Church of Christ; Practical Nurses Association; American Legion Auxiliary; Williamstown Womens Club; and the Business and Professional Womens Club of Parkersburg. On May 2, 1936, she married Sherman Huggins who preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1970. In July of 1976 she married George William Robinson who preceded her in death in 1983.
Survivors include her daughter, Florence Barth and her husband, Charles with whom she resided; and granddaughter, Cindi Barth of Marietta.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilber and Homer Coen; and one sister, Carrie Anderson.
Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home of Marietta, with the Rev. Gale Lauderman officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. today until the hour of the service.

Mildred A. "Millie" Robinson, 82, of Arvilla Community, Pleasants County died April 28, 2004, at Eagle Pointe, Parkersburg.
She was born July 11, 1922, in Connellsville, Ohio. She was raised in the Catholic church. In her earlier years, she did domestic work; was employed in an ammunition plant in Carlisle, Pa.; worked at the Warwick China Co. in Wheeling, W.Va.; and was a cook on the Ingram Barge Line. She worked for various A & P Stores in Wellsburg, W.Va., New Martinsville, W.Va., St. Marys, Vienna and Marietta and retired at the Gallipolis, Ohio, store. She was a member of the local Grocer Union 400. She was a member of the Pleasants County Senior Citizens and the Committee on Aging. She was devoted to her dogs "Rags" and "Moe" and her cat "Cat."
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Darlene "Snooks" Hayes and her husband, Jerry R., of Friendly, W.Va., and Penny Bowie and her husband, "Chuck," of Bens Run, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Kelly Hearn and her husband, Mike, of St. Marys, Jodie Spinella and her husband, Jimmy, of Hawthorne, N.J., Missy Taylor and her husband, Marvin, of St. Marys, J. R. Hayes and his wife, Christy, of Litchfield Park, Ariz., and Rita Cotton and her husband, Bill, of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren, Chelsea Brook Hearn, Mikayla Noel Hearn, Marly Alaina Taylor and Louis Charles Taylor, all of St. Marys, and Alexia Daniell Hayes and Gabriella Rose "Gabbie" Hayes of Litchfield Park; one brother, Thomas Antal of Ripley; two nephews; and four nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph "Joe" C. Robinson in 1977; and two brothers, Johnny Antal and Louis "Boob" Antal.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Eugene Bowie officiating. Burial will be in the Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville. Calling hours will be 4-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Roy H. Robinson Jr.
Roy H. Robinson Jr., 79, of St. Marys died May 1, 2005, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 5, 1925, in Pleasants County, W.Va., a son of the late Roy H. Sr. and Mazie Bowers Robinson. He was a Millwright by trade and was a member of the Millwright's Local Union 1755 of Parkersburg. He was a decorated World War II and Korean War U.S. Army veteran. During World War II, he served with the 82nd Airborne and the 83rd Infantry (1943-1946). He participated in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the following medals: the Combat Infantry badge twice, Expert Infantry badge, Parachute badge, Presidential Citation ribbon, Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and V Device, Purple Heart, European service medal with five battle stars, Victory medal World War II, Occupation medal World War II, D-Day medal, American Campaign medal and the Good Conduct medal. He served in Korea with the 101st airborne and 11th airborne (1950-1952). He participated in the battles from Pusan to the 38th parallel. While serving in Korea, he earned the following medals, Korean Service medal (two) battle stars, UN medal Korea, National Defense medal, and the Korean Unit Citation medal. He was a life member of the VFW and DAV, a 50 year member of St. Marys Lodge 41 A.F. & A.M., a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite in Parkersburg, a duel member of both St. Marys Chapter 31 and the Pennsboro Chapter 26 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Jenette Stewart Robinson of 39 years; one sister, Dolores Marsh and her husband, Harold, of Sebring, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Hoff Robinson, and a niece, Linda Dye Fulmer.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Park Section of the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery, with Dave Williamson officiating. Masonic graveside services will be conducted by St. Marys Lodge 41 A.F. & A.M. and Military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 79, VFW Post 222, and AMVETS Post 40. Calling hours will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys. The will be an Eastern Star memorial service 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Geo. K. Roby died, Tuesday morning at her home at Muses Bottom, Jackson county, of typhoid fever. The formerly lived at this city, and she was a native of this county, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steele, of near Raven Rock. She was the sister of E. H. Steele, of this city. Her remains were brought back to this county, Wednesday and she was laid to rest in the Mt. Carmel cemetery.

Mrs. Cora I. Roby was born at Long Reach, August 24, 1877, died September 16, 1902, aged 25 years and 23 days.She was the daughter of Henry and Alice Steele of Mt. Carmel, and beloved wife of George K. Roby.
At the age of sixteen years Cora fell out with sin, sought Christ, and obtained pardon for her sins through the merits of a merciful Savior, and retained an abiding evidence of her acceptance with God until the last. The last words she was heard to say were "blessed Jesus."
Cora possessed a sweet disposition and to know her was to love her. She was a dutiful wife and mother.
On the 24th of August she was smitten with that dread disease, typhoid fever which hurriedly brought her death. All that kind friends and a loving mother and husband could do was done to stay the hand of death, but God in His wisdom wanted that fair flower in Paradise, so he took her unto Himself.
She leaves a husband, one daughter, father and mother, five brothers and two sisters, besides a host of friends to mourn her death.
Her funeral was preached Sept. 18 at Mt. Carmel by Rev. A. A. Kelly, after which her remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Carmel cemetery to await the resurrection. The parents, husband, brothers and sisters have our heartfelt sympathy in their dark hour of bereavement. -A Relative

James Roby
James Roby, 72, of East End Avenue, Morgantown, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006.
He was born Sept. 20, 1933, in St. Marys, the son of the late Rosemond and Hazel Pollard Roby.
James served during the Korean War with the VP22, patrolling the Alaskan coastline as an A/C Turret Gunner. He also served with the Marine Invasion Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis as well as serving two years in Vietnam and retired from the Navy in 1973 as a 1st Class Petty Officer. He was a member of the VFW Post 548.
He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his friends at the VFW Post 548, but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his eight year old granddaughter, Katelyn.
He is survived by a daughter, Betty Roby of Morgantown; a son, Clay Roby of Morgantown; and one granddaughter, Katelyn Anne Gilligan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Lois Anne Rowand Roby.
Friends will be received 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today and noon until the time of service 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. VFW Post 548 of Morgantown will conduct Military rites at the cemetery.

Freda Mae Wilson Roden, 91, of St. Marys, W.Va., died June 6, 2009, at Carehaven of Pleasants in Belmont, W.Va.
She was born March 11, 1918, at Hebron, W.Va., a daughter of the late Arthur Thurman and Delsa O'Dessa Bumgardner. She was a member of the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ and had been a Church of Christ member for over 79 years. She was retired from the former Colin Anderson Center in St. Marys and had been an Avon Representative for 45 years. She had been a member of the Stepping Stones at Ohio Valley College (University) and a member of the Pioneer Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her children, Anthony Roden of St. Marys, Karen Mae Smith of Broadway, N.C., and O'Dessa Hunt of St. Marys; six grandchildren, Mike Hadley II, Craig Hadley, Toni Hopkins, T. J. Hunt, Tommy Smith and Christine Fann; nine great-grandchildren, Allison and Paxton Smith, Evan, A. J., Tre, Jordan and Alliyah Hopkins, Addia and Campbell Fann; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rondale' "Prue" Smith; three sisters, Esther Rea, Zora Mossack and Pauline Fox; and two brothers, Thurman Wilson and Oran Wilson.

Margaret V. Rodgers, 90, of Statesville, N.C., formerly of Raven Rock, Pleasants County, W.Va., died Dec. 20, 2008.
She was born Jan. 25, 1918, in Pleasants County, W.Va., a daughter of the late George William and Roberta Elizabeth Tippens Barnhart. She had attended the Mt. Nebo Church of Christ and had been employed by the Maryland Cup Corporation in Reisterstown, Md. Her hobbies included jigsaw puzzles and quilting.
She is survived by two daughters, Zelma G. Blevins and her husband, Bill, of Troutman, N.C., and Patricia Thompson and her husband, Stanley, of Statesville, N.C.; grandchildren, Ronnie Stewart, Kathy Danner, Karen Stewart, Sandra Morrison, Deborah Isenhour, Brenda Waugh, Diane Johnson and James Rodgers; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Dalrymple of Bens Run, W.Va.; one brother, George Barnhart of Paden City, W.Va.; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, James William Harding and George Edwin Rodgers; sisters, Myrtle Kimball, Hilda Dalrymple and Edith Dalrymple; and brothers, Joe Barnhart, Franklin Barnhart, Oliver Barnhart, Paul Barnhart, Dean Barnhart, Jim Barnhart and Thurman Barnhart.

ST. MARYS - Everett Rogers, 94, of Route 1, St. Marys, Finch Community, departed this life on Feb. 6, 2004, at Marietta.
Mr. Rogers was born on Oct. 11, 1909, to the late Tom and Emma Goodwin Rogers. He began his working life in the oil and gas industry as a rig builder in Ohio and West Virginia. He then was employed by the former Newport Lumber of Newport, Ohio, and W.A. Wilson of St. Marys. His last employment was as a carpenter for Tice Builders of St. Marys. He was widely known for selling fruits and vegetables from the back of his truck in Ritchie and Pleasants counties. He was a member of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church at Finch.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Charlotte Louise Underwood of Parkersburg, Ila Lou and Al Sullivan of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Helen and John Lamm of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Helen Blanche Lamp Rogers; his second wife, Kathleen Williamson Lamp Rogers; brothers, Charles and Andy Rogers; sisters, Martha Stout and Margie Richards; and sons-in-law, Gail Underwood and Carl Thomas.

Masel Bell Rogers
Mrs. Masel Bell Rogers, 83, of Route #5, Box 880, Grafton, W.Va., passed away at 5:35 p.m. on June 12, 2008 at the Grafton City Hospital. She was born in Barbour County, W.Va. on May 17, 1925, a daughter of the late James Burlin Isner and Virginia Poe Isner.
Her husband, Leslie Dale Rogers, Sr., whom she married June 7, 1943, preceded her in death May 7, 1979.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Leslie Dale Rogers, Jr. and his wife, April, of St. Marys, W.Va.; one brother, Thomas Ray Isner and his wife, Norma of Yelm, Wash.; two sisters, Sylvia Garlow and husband, Robert, Fairmont, W.Va. and Ethel Nuckols and husband Jack, Morgantown, W.Va.; a step-granddaughter, Melissa Ann Fenwick, Chicago, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Rogers was also preceded in death by four brothers, Arlie Freeman, James Isner, Jesse Isner and Burlin Isner; and three sisters, Blance Isner, Isora Isner and Maudie Marie Isner.
Mrs. Rogers was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church, on the East Grafton Road. She was a graduate of Philippi High School, class of 1943. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Fairmont State College in the class of 1946 and her Masters Degrees from West Virginia University in 1951. She had been employed as a teacher and principal in Marion and Taylor County School systems for over 42 years.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarkersburg. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Brown presiding. Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont, W.Va.

Phyllis Josephine Rogers, 88, of St. Marys died Sept. 30, 2007, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 8, 1919, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late John and Della Boyd Rogers. She was a 1938 graduate of St. Marys High School and she attended Bliss Business College. She was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church and she was retired from Quaker State.
She is survived by two nieces, Charlotte Fauss and her husband, Mahlon, of Williamstown and Beverly Seckman of Byesville, Ohio; two nephews, William Rogers and his wife, Janice, of Gainesville, Ga., and Gary Rogers of Talmadge, Ohio; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Vance and Wilbur Rogers, and one sister, Edna Golden.
At Ms. Rogers request there will be graveside services 11 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Marys I.O.O.F. Cemetery, with the Rev. Pam Shuman officiating. Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, is assisting the family.

Funeral services were held ath the Ruttencutter Funeral Home on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. B. Johnson, pastor of the MP Church and burial was made in the Mt. Carmel cemetery.

Ruth Emojean Rogers, 68, of Parkersburg went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Jan. 15, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 20, 1939, in Munday, W.Va., a daughter of the late James J. and Clara M. Kelley. She was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church. She had worked at Public Debt and was a homemaker. She enjoyed camping, sewing and gardening.
Surviving is her husband, George G. Rogers of 46 years; two sons, Greg and wife, Jennifer, of Washington and Tim and wife, Heather, of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Dalton, Caden, Morgan and Paige; and six sisters and one brother, Louise Ayers of Elizabeth, Elouise Bonar of Central, Betty Boice of Parkersburg, Leona Pettit of Glenville, Madilene Yoak of Grantsville, Sue Peppers of Munday and Paul Kelley of Munday.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Kelley and Don Kelley.

Elsie Varner Roland
Elsie Christina Schauwecker Varner Roland, 100, of Orlando, Fla. passed away Dec. 18, 2006.
She was born Oct. 31, 1906 in a log cabin outside St. Marys. When she was quite young, her father, Christian C. Schauwecker and mother, Evva E. Bills, moved to Oklahoma with their five daughters and one son. After the death of his wife, Mr. Schauwecker moved back to St. Marys to raise his children.
Elsie Schauwecker married John Kenneth Varner in I923. They had one daughter, Ella Mae. The family lived for many years in New Jersey and in the late I950's, Elsie Varner moved to Orlando, Fla., where she married Leon Roland and resided until her death.
Elsie Varner Roland was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anna Schauwecker, Ethel Hamm, Grace Pethtel, and Juanita Robinson; and brother, Clarence Schauwecker.
She is survived by her daughter, Ella Mae Varner Womer of Damascus, Penn.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Beulah M. Rolston
Beulah Morgan Rolston, 88, of Belmont, W.Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at approximately 9:20 p.m. Nov. 27, 2005.
She was born Jan. 20, 1917, Rock Run, Pleasants County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Stokley and Edna Wagner Morgan. Those who knew her loved her, and she loved them as well. She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Churches of Logan, Ohio, and then of St. Marys, when she, her husband and her son moved to Belmont in 1963. She was a member of the St. Marys Womans Club, and an active member of the American Cancer Society. She gave of herself lovingly to many people. Beulah was a loving and giving person, who will be fondly and lovingly remembered.
She is survived by one son, Drew Rolston and his wife, Ann; one grandson, Kevin Rolston and his wife, Kim; grandchildren, Caitlin and Colin; one sister, Dora Heflin and her husband, Harry; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George H. Rolston, who died Jan. 31, 1989; her eldest sister, Helen Morgan Scott; a niece, Helen Lou Scott Riggs; and a niece by marriage, Mary Lane Heflin.
Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the St. Marys Presbyterian Church, St. Marys, with the Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Cremation will follow the service at her request. She will be buried along side the grave of her beloved husband at a later date in the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys and from 2-3 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Thursday at the Willow Island Baptist Church for Clarence H. Rolston, 25, of Dupo, Ill. who was killed in a traffic accident Christmas Day on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Somerset. He was en route to New York after visiting friends and relatives in the Parkersburg vicinity.
The wreck victim is survived by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Rolston, of Dupo, Ill., and several relatives in this area including three uncles, Joe Newlen of St. Marys, RFD; R. W. Rolston, Parkersburg; and J. R. Rolston, St. Marys, Rte 3; three aunts, Mrs. Eleanor Wingrove, Belpre, O.; Mrs. Alice Butts, Newport, O.; and Mrs. Cora Fauus, Waverly.
His mother, Edith Newlen Rolston, preceded him in death in 1938.
Burial was in Willow Island Baptist Church cemetery. The Corbitt funeral home at Waverly was in charge of arrangements.

A retired LSU entomology professor, he died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 86. Preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Nelson Rolston. Survived by his four children from his first marriage, David A. Rolston, Gordon R. Rolston, Carla Rolston Hebert and Clyde P. Rolston; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. His work on sweet potatoes resulted in the Beauregard variety which earned him "Man of the Year" recognition from Louisiana growers in 1988. Graveside service at Greenoaks Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13.

Vera D. Ronyak, 78, of Belmont, WV, passed away February 6, 2008 at Camden- Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born, February 7, 1929, in Pleasants Co., WV a daughter of the late William and Loma Northcraft Summers. She is survived by three children, Timmy Ronyak, Bobby Ronyak, Roberta Ronyak, three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, a brother, Ronnie Summers and his wife, Linda, of Oklahoma, one nephew, Rodney Summers, four aunts, Betty Campbell of Arvilla, WV, Zelma Grove of Arvilla, WV, Twila Hanlon of Parkersburg, WV, Ester Summers of Clarksburg, WV, several cousins, and a special caregiver and friend, Mickey Dearth. Alice Ross
Alice McCullough Ross passed away in Morgantown, W.Va., on April 28, 2009 after a long battle with cancer.
Born Oct. 12, 1935, in Pennsboro, W.Va., she resided during her youth in Hebron, W.Va. A devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was a 1953 graduate of St. Marys High School and a 1957 graduate of Glenville State College. Through her career, she pursued her love of music through teaching and performance. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Morgantown, the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, Hendersonville, N.C., the Morgantown Harp Ensemble and the choir at the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed working with children and most recently helped organize and conduct a youth string ensemble at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon W. Ross; a son, Philip W. Ross of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a daughter, Sharon Ross Palmatory of Morgantown; a granddaughter, Georgia Kay Palmatory of Morgantown; two sisters, Georgianna Riggs of Mesa, Ariz., and Carolyn Bearden of Findlay, Ohio; and a brother, Charles McCullough of Grafton, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Lawrence McCullough; and one brother, James McCullough.
A memorial fund has been established in her name at the First Presbyterian Church, 456 Spruce Street, Morgantown, WV 26505. The family would appreciate contributions to the church.
A memorial service and reception will be 4 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the First Presbyterian Church, Morgantown, W.Va. An interment service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at the IOOF Cemetery, St. Marys.

Ethel M. Ross, 64, of Harrisville, W.Va., departed this life on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, W.Va.
Mrs. Ross was born on May 19, 1944, at Ellenboro, W.Va., a daughter of the late William Blaine Rollins and Sara B. Auville Rollins Davis. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School, had been employed in the garment industry and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.
She is survived by sons, William Ross of Amarillo, Texas, and Larry Ross of Harrisville; sisters, Kippie Gautschi of New Martinsville, W.Va., Nola Timmons of Ellenboro, Edith Hackathorn of Belpre, Sue Lamp and Dea Phillips, both of Pike, W.Va., Penny McCullough of Pennsboro and Karen White of Kenna, W.Va.; and brothers, David Rollins of Ellenboro and Mark Rollins of Clarksburg.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rollins was preceded in death by a son, Blaine Rollins Jr.; and stepfather, Thomas E. Davis.
Graveside services with military rites for Mrs. Rollins will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Ellenboro Masonic Cemetery.

Karen Ross, 57, of Pennsboro (Barkertown Community), departed this life on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.
Mrs. Ross was born Nov. 20, 1950, on McKim Creek near St. Marys, W.Va., a daughter of the late Wayne and Evelyn Shingleton Hooper. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School, class of 1969, and attended Glenville State College. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church, both of St. Marys. During her working career, she was a secretary for W.A. Wilson & Sons and Commercial Tax Service, both of St. Marys.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Richard L. Ross; son, Jeremy Ross; daughter, Misty Ross; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glenn and Irene Ross; sister, Marilyn (Lewis) Cottrill, all of Pennsboro; sister, Carolyn (Mike) Flanagan of St. Marys; brother, Jim (Stephanie) Hooper of St. Marys; brothers, Edgar (Ann) Hooper of Wheeling, W.Va., and the Rev. Dr. Larry (Sandy) Hooper of Vienna; brother-in-law, Steve Ross of Williamstown; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancey and David Henthorn of St. Marys; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary E. Hooper.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, St. Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Hooper and the Rev. John Strimer officiating. Leland S. Ross, 100, of Belmont, WV, died, March 18, 2002, at the St. Joseph Hospital, Parkersburg, WV. He was born, November 22, 1901, at Heborn, WV, a son of the late Guisham and Salome Belle Shingleton Ross. He was retired from General Motors Corporation with over 30 years, was a member of the St. Marys Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member of St. Marys Lodge # 41 A. F.& A. M., and a member of the Grant-Jefferson Lions Club in Belmont, WV.
He is survived by three nieces, Joanne L. Basham and Lila Lee White both of Charleston, WV, and Mary Rebecca Ferris of Remsen, NY, one nephew, Dr. Dan W. Habel of Spokane, WA, several great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, and great great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Loveall Ross in 1993.

Larry Lyle Rouse, 68, of Reno, OH, died, June 10, 2007, at the Marietta Center. He is absent from the body and present with the Lord. He was born, January 8, 1938, at Deucher, OH, the first son and middle child of the late C. Lawrence and Mabel Hutchison Rouse. God took his angel, Glada Lynn Ruckman of St. Marys, home on Aug. 3, 2005.
She was born March 12, 1955, in Parkersburg, the daughter of Thomas Ruckman, and the late Glada Alice Steed Ruckman. She was a member of the Cow Creek United Methodist Church.
She was an only child, a gift from God, and will be missed by care givers, Naomi Ross, Robin Lipps, Vicki Brown, Kathy Scadden, Jessica Everett, Mina Baker, and a dear friend, Janet Collins. She will be remembered by all of her friends in Schultz, W.Va.
In addition to her father, she is survived by an aunt, Lovell Olender of Washington, D.C.
She is preceded in death by her mother, and an uncle, Daniel Ruckman.

James W. Ruckman, 75, passed away peacefully at his Middlebourne, residence, September 20, 2012, after a long illness.
Born in St. Marys, WV, on October 9, 1936, he was the son of the late Eugene and Margaret Wilson Ruckman. He was preceded in death by a sister Peggy (John) Barkwill, Winter Park, FL. He is survived by beloved companion Vera Henthorn and her family; daughters Suzanne (Vince) Nowell of Ft. Myers, FL and Deirdre (Allen) Appel of Gaithersburg, MD; and sister Rebecca (David) Boggs of Mt. Vernon, IN. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 4 nephews, a great-niece and 2 great nephews.
Jim was a graduate of the St. Marys High School Class of 1954 and also of WVU. He was a proud U.S. Marine, Vietnam era veteran, always standing by the motto "Semper Fi." In 1972, he was bestowed the governor's Distinguished West Virginian Award. He was an "admiral"in the Cherry River Navy. Jim was a loyal and lifetime follower of Mountaineer sports. Considering himself "the one true un-reconstructed native-born West BY GOD Virginian," he was deeply interested in the history of his family, Pleasants County, and West Virginia. As a gifted raconteur of funny stories and jokes, he was adept at making tall tales taller. Maintaining "Rockertalk" on the Pleasants County GenWeb, he provided "A Rockerbilly Prayer": Give me a sense of humor, Lord, Give me the grace to see a joke, To get some humor out of life, And pass it on to other folk. Jim never met a stranger, made friends easily, had a big heart and will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV. Friends may visit at 1:00 p.m., until time of the 2:00 p.m. service.

Born in Pleasant county, he was the son of the late Charles and Sarah West Ruckman. He was a member of the Cow Creek Methodist Church.

Janice Ann Rupert, 63, of Williamstown died July 15, 2006, at St. Josephs Hospital, Parkersburg.
She was born Sept. 20, 1942, at Marietta, a daughter of Marjorie Marie Stewart Campbell Higgins of St. Marys and the late Fred Alexander Campbell. Janice was a member of the Willow Island Baptist Church and the Sams Creek Baptist Church. She had worked for Pleasants County Home Health, the former Colin Anderson Center, and as a LPN at St. Josephs Hospital. Her hobbies include doll making, where she earn the name of Doll Lady, and she was an artist.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 26 years, Virgil L. Rupert; five children, Sherry Lynn Rowe and her husband, John W., of Fairmont, W.Va., Randy Gene Gaspers and his wife, Sarah, of St. Marys, Steven Larry Gaspers and Angela Ann Nolan and her husband, Denzil Jr., all of Williamstown, and Rodney Lewis Tator Gaspers and his wife, Peggy Ann, of St. Marys; eight grandchildren, Shannon Dee Higgins Clary, Jason Roy Higgins, Stephanie Lynn Rowe, Bobby Jo Gaspers Seese, Jesse James Canterbury III, Nathaniel Wayne Nolan, Robbie Lewis Gaspers and Larry Gene Gaspers; eight great-grandchildren, Melissa D. Rebecca Ellen Carpenter Runnels
Rebecca Ellen Carpenter Runnels of Newark, DE, died July 19, 2008, at age 89. She was a native of St. Marys.
She was a graduate of West Virginia University and the Barnes Hospital Dietetic Internship at Washington University, St. Louis, MO. During World War II, she served as a dietitian at Holzer Hospital, Gallipolis, OH.
In 1945, she accompanied her husband to Galveston, TX, where she was a therapeutic dietitian at the U. S. Marine Hospital. She. resided in Stillwater, OK, and Baltimore, MD, enroute to Newark, DE, arriving in 1949.
In 1957, Mrs. Runnels became the school lunch supervisor of the five schools of the Newark Special School District. In 1978, when the 21 schools of the Newark District along with 10 other school districts of New Castle County merged to form the New Castle County School District, she was the director of food service for the new district, retiring in 1981. She served six years on the Governor's Pension Advisory Council for the State of Delaware. Her needlework Audubon birds are in the permanent collection of the John James Audubon Museum in Henderson, KY.
She was a member of the American Dietetic Association, the Delaware Association of School Administrators, Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society, University of Delaware Women's Club, Daughters of Colonial Wars, and Newark United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Doyle Runnels of Newark, DE; a granddaughter, Ellen Lorraine Runnels of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Walter S. Carpenter of St. Marys; a sister, Helen Mary Hewitt of Georgetown, DE; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hiram Alexander Carpenter Sr and Mary Ambler Carpenter; her husband, Tom Doyle Runnels, to whom she was married 56 years; brothers, Hiram Ambler Carpenter Jr. and John Franklin Carpenter; and sister, Barbara Ann Topper.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at Newark United Methodist Church, Newark, DE.

She was born Nov. 2, 1928, in New Waterford, Ohio, a daughter of the late Leo A. and Mabel Spencer Smith. She was a member of the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ. She was retired from the Pleasants County Nutrition Center where she served as site supervisor.

Dorothy Mae Russell, 75, of Belmont, died July 30, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 24, 1925, to the late Vance and Florence Seavers Eddy and was the wife of Creighton E. Russell. She enjoyed playing bingo and her grandkids.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Barbara Malcomb and her husband John, Martha Lewis and her husband, Vernon, and Linda Thompson, all of St. Marys; four grandchildren, David Malcomb and his wife, Connie, of St. Marys, Anthony Lewis and his wife, Kristy, of Belmont, Jack Sheaves of Columbus, and Samantha Thompson of St. Marys; one great-grandchild, Anthony C. David was born on Aug. 5, 1965, in Sistersville, W.Va., the son of the late Thomas Edwin Rustemeyer and Elsie Kehrer Rustemeyer Cline who survives. David was an iron worker, being a member of Local 172 in Columbus; a member of the New Life Lutheran Church and an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a 1983 graduate of Sistersville High School and had an apprentice degree in ship building. He was a graduate of West Virginia State having an Associate's Degree in Applied Science.
David is survived by his wife, Jill Golden Rustemeyer whom he married on Feb. 5, 1994, in Gallipolis; a daughter, Sara Rustemeyer and a stepdaughter, Chelsea Stowers, both at home; his mother and stepfather, Elsie and Dave Cline of Sistersville, W.Va.; two brothers, Greg Rustemeyer of Columbus and Clay (Deanna) Rustemeyer of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Pam (Mike) Makie of Belmont, W.Va., and Patsy (Tom) Gist of Friendly, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Nebo Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Willis Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jim Blair, Dillon Rustemeyer, Tommy Rustemeyer, Tommy Buchannon, Richard Long and Rowdy Evans. Honorary Pallbearer will be Mike Williams.

JOHN PAUL RUTTENCUTTER - July 27, 1912 - January 27, 2008
John Ruttencutter was born on July 27, 1912 in a farmhouse south of Grants Pass,Oregon about a mile up Fish Hatchery Road from the Wilderville Post Office and country store. John was the third child of Paul and Chloe. He had an older sister, Alice, and two younger brothers, Sherman and Lee. His oldest sister, Virginia, died as an infant. John spent all of his growing up years in this part of Oregon. The family sometimes lived in Grants Pass and sometimes in Wilderville.
John attended the University of Oregon during the depression years. In fact, he had to take a year off to help support his family, so he graduated a year late. The first year of college he roomed in a house and lived in the small screened-in porch because it was cheaper. He tried to make his money stretch by eating day-old pastries. He sent his laundry home on the train. His mother would do the laundry and send it back. When we were kids and money wasn't so tight, John still wouldn't eat pastries. He had enough of them. Even though money was tight, John had good times in college. He talked about his buddies and the fun things they did together. John majored in business and was graduated from college in 1936. After college he went to work for a small lumber company in northern California as their accountant. It was there that he met Ruby Lewis, the local school teacher. They were married in June 1937 in Reno, Nevada at the First Baptist Church parsonage.
John and Ruby moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon John worked in the bank. He had just worked his way up to head teller when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Erika was a newborn. The small family headed to Sacramento, CA. John had enlisted and was to be shipped out to Hawaii as part of a unit in charge of supplies. A blizzard fouled their plans; they were unable to get through the pass over the Siskiyous and were forced to return to Klamath Falls to wait out the storm. When they arrived in Sacramento, the group had left for Hawaii. John spent the war years in Sacramento working for the State of California.
After the war, John continued to work as an auditor for the State of California. Thefamily moved to Redding. Liz, the second daughter, was born there in 1946. The family moved to Red Bluff in 1949. Eventually, John quit his auditor's job and began working for Forward Brothers Properties as their accountant manager.
John and Ruby were divorced in 1962. John married Everal Neal in December of that year. In 1964, John went to work for a road construction firm that built roads. During that time, he lived in Redding, Eureka and Sonora. The business folded when one of the co-owners died of leukemia after a brief illness. John and Everal then moved to San Jose for awhile and then to Springfield, Oregon. After John retired, he and Everal bought a small piece of land in Rogue River, Oregon. John loved that piece of property and spent hours working on it, planting a garden, cutting down trees, repairing the roof to the shed. He sold the property when he was about 86.
In 1979, Everal died of cancer. John married Minna LaCoursiere in 1983. She died in 1995. After Minna died, John stayed on in Red Bluff until he was about 89. At 89 he moved to Redmond, Oregon. At 90, he moved to Seattle to be with Erika. He was there until his death at exactly age 95.5.
When he lived in Red Bluff in the early years, John was active on the Mosquito Abatement Board, the Methodist Church, the Lion's Club and the Masonic Lodge. In later years, he joined the Presbyterian Church w/Minna. John was also an active Shriner. When Minna died, John took a writing class offered by the Salvation Army. He loved that class. He wrote anecdotes from his youth, and shared them with his classmates. He also joined the widows/widowers club that held meetings at the Episcopal Church. He called the club the widows and orphans club, but he really enjoyed the group and talked about the people he met there.
Dad was friendly with everyone. He talked to grocery store clerks. We used to joke that he could talk w/fence posts. In his last years, it was sad because his hearing was so bad that he was isolated from social conversation. That had been his life's blood.
The family had a memorial service in Red Bluff, CA for John. His daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren attended. We miss him.

KATHLEEN RUTTENCUTTER
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - Kathleen Thorn Ruttencutter, 97, of Chesterfield, Mo., formerly of St. Marys, entered into rest Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, five days prior to her 98th birthday.
She was born in Friendly, a daughter of the late Hugh and Nancy Twyford Thorn and was the wife of the late Charles Ruttencutter.
She was the beloved mother of Franklin; beloved grandmother of Eric and his wife, Kristen, Stephanie and Anne and her husband, Sean; beloved great-gram of Sarah and Claire; and dear friend to all who had the honor of meeting her. Even though she faced many challenges throughout her life, she always will be known as someone who faced them head-on with dignity and charm. Whether she was traveling the world, painting or tending to her home in St. Marys, she lived every day to the fullest. Her legacy is her paintings, which allow us to have her with us through the remainder of our journey.
Please join us in paying tribute to this amazing woman at 3 p.m. Monday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial will be in St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Gary A. Ryan
Gary Arthur Ryan, 58, was a resident of Vienna, though his heart always resided in Bunner Ridge, W.Va. He was born Oct. 12, 1945, and left this world May 9, 2004, to be with both his heavenly and earthly fathers.
He was born in Fairmont, W.Va., a son of Ida Mae "Mickey" Ryan Walls and the late Bernard "Bud" Ryan.
Gary was a devoted elder and leader at Grand Central Church of Christ in Vienna, where he also served as benevolence ministry leader, deacon, bible class teacher and small group leader. Gary was also formerly dean of students at Ohio Valley College, Parkersburg.
Forever the eternal optimist, Gary was a devoted West Virginia University Mountaineer and Cleveland Indians' fan. Gary was also a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and "Pappy." He was a senior account executive and toured the world with the Horace Mann Insurance Co. for 22 years, and was a member of the "Hall of Fame" for the company. He was recently elected president of the Parkersburg Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.
Gary started his early educational career in a one-room West Virginia Schoolhouse. Gary was previously principal at St. Marys High School; a member of the Lions Club; and a chemistry teacher at Brooke High School. He graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1963 and both Fairmont State and West Virginia University.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan Clelland Ryan; two daughters, Mrs. John (Sally Ryan) Massey of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Richard (Missy Ryan) Maidens Jr. of Williamstown; two special grandchildren, J and Shaylyn Massey; one special step granddaughter, Kayleigh Maidens; his mother, Ida Mae Ryan Walls and her husband, Claud Walls, of Bunner Ridge; one brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Sioux Ryan of Bunner Ridge; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally Clelland Johnson and Marty Johnson of Fairmont; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Jackie Clelland of California; sister-in-law, Linda Clelland; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Dan Clelland of California.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, with Evangelist Joe Spivy of Grand Central Church of Christ, Evangelist Albert Farley of Salem and Dr. David Keller, elder at Grand Central Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Zion Cemetery, Fairmont. Friends may call from noon-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ohio Valley College in memory of Gary.

Olive V. Ryerson
Olive Virginia (Hoy) Ryerson of Vienna died at approximately 1 a.m. on Nov. 15, 2005, at The Arbors at Marietta, Washington County, Ohio, after many years of poor health and nearly constant pain. She had remained at her home until Oct. 19, 2005, before being hospitalized with pneumonia and metabolic encephalopathy resulting from renal dysfunction.
She was born Oct. 14, 1920, at her parents' home in Eureka, Pleasants County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Nathan Clark (N.C.) and Margaret Ann (Atkins) Hoy. She attended Pleasants County schools and was a 1938 graduate of St. Marys High School.
During World War II, she worked in Washington, D.C., at the government printing office as a clerk-typist. There, she met her future husband, Tech Sgt. Martin George Ryerson of Warwick, Orange County, N.Y. He was visiting his sister, Mary Elizabeth Ryerson. Mary subsequently married John Hoy, brother of the deceased.
Olive moved to Clovis, Curry County, N.M., where Mr. Ryerson was stationed in the Army Air Corps and she married him there on Dec. 20, 1944, at the base chapel. They went on to enjoy a career in the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service and had the good fortune to spend many years abroad in interesting countries and circumstances, including Madrid, Spain; La Paz, Bolivia; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; and Saigon, Vietnam. She resided in Manassas, Prince William County, Va., until the death of her husband in 1971. She then returned to St. Marys and resided there until she moved to Vienna.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, John Nathan Hoy and his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Ryerson) Hoy, of Huntsville, Ala.; and one sister, Mary Atoyle Bennett of St. Marys.
She is survived by one sister, Leota Marie Doak of Eureka, W.Va.; and two sons, Martin George Ryerson and Marshall Gregory Ryerson, both of Vienna. Martin was born on Sept. 5, 1945, in Clovis, N.M. Marshall was born on Dec. 27, 1954, in Madrid, Spain. They have no other siblings.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service and her remains will be cremated. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, is assisting the Ryerson family.

Joseph R. Rymer, Sr., 76, of St. Marys, WV, died July 7, 2008 at the Sistersville Center, Sistersville, WV. He was born March 11, 1932, in Marietta, OH, a son of the late Roy Henry and Frances Elizabeth Thompson Rymer. He was retired from the Chrysler Stamping Plant in Twinsburg, OH, and was a 1951 graduate of St. Marys High School. He was a avid CBer with the handle, Plug Nickel. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, including NASCAR, baseball, and football, and loved to play cards. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lola Colvin Rymer, four children, Kathy (Tom) Fanara of Kimbolton, OH, Brenda (Chris) Benson of Ripley, WV, Joseph Roy Rymer, Jr. of Wick, WV, and Bonita (Will) McQuillian of St. Marys, WV, eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Frank Rymer, and a sister, Mary Evans. Services will be held Thursday, July 10, 2008, at 2 P. M. at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV. Interment will be in the Middlebourne Cemetery, Middlebourne, WV. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P. M. Wednesday and from 1 to 2 P. M.
