Normal is the one type in the Pokémon world that isn't super-effective against another type, but that doesn't mean it's useless. Normal-type moves are plentiful, being the most common type for moves — and many of them are very strong.

There are almost 200 Normal-type moves, and you've probably been very frustrated by many of them in an online battle. On the right Pokémon, these moves are fantastic. If you're looking to build a team with some great Normal-type moves, here's a good place to start. These are ten of the best Normal-type moves in the game.
10 Protect
One of the most popular moves with competitive players and the AI within the game, Protect is a fantastic move that will infuriate your opponent to no end. Here's how it works if you aren't familiar: you block basically all damage and effects for the turn it's used. But, it can only be used every other turn, meaning you can't just keep using it.
There are a few exceptions to this move's full protection, including the fact that weather hazards will still damage you, but it's an amazing move that can be used in a variety of ways.
9 Me First
It's surprising that Me First isn't a Dark-type move, considering that, like many Dark moves, it has a shady and playful effect. Me First, if used successfully, steals your opponent's move and uses it against them.

If the target hasn't moved yet but they selected a move that will deal damage, Me First lets your Pokémon copy the move they are going to use and add 50 percent power to it. This can be deadly when used properly.
8 Metronome
Metronome is a famously humorous move, with a ton of use competitively and in fun casual settings. Upon use, Metronome will cal (almost) any move in existence and use it. This can lead to small little Clefairy using moves like Aeroblast and Spacial Rend, or cause a poor Munchlax to knock itself out with Explosion.
It's a tough strategy to use competitively, but if you're super lucky, it'll be an amazingly useful move. Otherwise, it's fun to just go head-to-head only using Metronome with friends and see what happens.
7 Substitute
This is a classic move that has been around since Generation I, where it was extremely glitchy in a lot of cases. This move allows the user to spend 25 percent of their maximum HP, creating a small substitute with that amount of health.
This substitute will take any damage from the opponent until running out of health. There is a wide variety of nuances and ways that certain moves or effects will interact with the substitute, but overall it's a great move that can be used to outlast your opponent.
6 Extreme Speed
Once the signature move of Arcanine, Extreme Speed is an extremely valuable move to have on any team. Introduced in Generation III, this move ensures you strike fast and powerfully before your opponent has a chance to touch you.

Extreme Speed has a respectable 80 power and 100 percent accuracy, which is great on its own. But, it also has a priority of +2, meaning it'll move before many other moves. With many Pokémon battle victories being dependant upon speed, this can be a make-or-break move to use.
5 Swords Dance
While many wins do come down to speed, the other stats should not be ignored. Attack is perhaps one of the most important stats, especially with many competitive builds. Being able to hit hard is crucial, and Swords Dance helps with that.
This move will boost attack by two levels, which can take your Pokémon from strong to god-like real quick. There's a reason so many people use this move on their teams — it's truly one of the best. It can also be taught to a ton of Pokémon.
4 Judgment
This is an interesting move. As the signature move of Arceus, it is typically a Normal-type move, like Arceus itself. However, also like Arceus, it'll change types depending on what Plate Arceus is holding. It has 100 power and 100 percent accuracy, which is fantastic as well.
But, the fact that it changes to always be a STAB move for Arceus is extremely valuable. The only downside to this move is that it is a signature move, meaning it's only available to one Pokémon.
3 Hyper Beam/Giga Impact
The old classic Hyper Beam has been widely-known as one of the best moves for years. With 150 power and 90 percent accuracy, it's often deadly. The only downside is that it takes a turn to recharge.

Giga Impact is basically the same move, with the same power, accuracy, and recharge. But, Hyper Beam is special while Giga Impact is physical. Use whichever one works better for your Pokémon. If it has higher special attack, opt for Hyper Beam, but if you have a higher attack, opt for Giga Impact.
2 Return
It might not seem like it at first, but Return is an amazing move. The power of this move is determined by how much the user likes its trainer, meaning the greater the friendship, the greater the move's power rating.
The calculation for its power is the user's friendship divided by 2.5. The highest it can be is 102, which is very good, putting two points over Judgment and many other of the "best" moves in the game. One extra bonus point for this move goes to the fact that it can be taught to almost any Pokémon via TM.
1 Boomburst
Boomburst is easily the strongest Normal-type attack, and could be argued as one of the best moves in the entire series. With an accuracy of 100 percent and a base power of 140, this is a deadly move.
It also affects multiple opponents in a multi-battle. The only downside to this move is that it won't affect the few Pokémon with the ability Soundproof. Otherwise, it's a super-strong move that makes no sacrifice on accuracy.
