Week 3 in Akron-area high school football featured what could hold on to be the game of the year with Tallmadge winning a back-and-forth thriller over Green, 47-46 in overtime.

Unbeaten Tallmadge was again in the spotlight in Week 4, hosting unbeaten Highland in a battle between the Beacon Journal's No. 2 and No. 6 teams. The No. 6 Hornets dominated the No. 2 Blue Devils 27-7 in the Suburban League American Conference opener for both teams.

Top-ranked Archbishop Hoban faced its first Ohio opponent after a long bus ride to Cincinnati Withrow and the Knights came away with a 49-19 win to remain unbeaten.

Grinding out wins:'Drag some tires:' CVCA's persistent ground game leads to big results

Winless Buchtel had hopes of getting its first win in a game against a St. Vincent-St. Mary team coming off an impressive 35-0 win over Barberton. The Irish had other ideas in a convincing 34-13 win over the Griffins.

The Beacon Journal also had reporters at Woodridge's 28-14 win over previously undefeated Coventry and Revere's 21-7 win over Cuyahoga Falls.

Green takes lead in final minute to beat Jackson 29-28

After an interception was nullified by a roughing the passer penalty, Green QB Robby Klockner scores on a 3-yard run with 44 seconds remaining to cut Jackson's lead to 28-27. Klockner then hit Zack Baglia on a slant for the 2-point conversion after Jackson was called for offside and moved the ball inside the 2.

Lukas Stiles scores again for Highland ... and again

A 13-yard touchdown run by Lukas Stiles gave the Hornets a 20-7 lead over Tallmadge and the Blue Devils turn the ball over on downs and Highland has the ball back on its own 47 early in the fourth quarter. Stiles adds a 21-yard touchdown run and Highland leads 27-7 with eight minutes to go.

Norton clings to lead over Streetsboro

After Luke Dobbins scored on a 68-yard run for the Panthers, Preston Hopperton scored from 2 yards out for the Rockets and Norton leads 21-17 early in the fourth quarter.

Nordonia pulls away from North Royalton

Leading 23-14 at the half, the Knights have added a third-quarter touchdown and its 30-14.

Jackson takes control over Green

The Polar Bears score two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter and lead the Bulldogs 28-14.

Punt return gives Highland the lead

Matt Ciryak returned a Tallmadge punt 63 yards for a touchdown and the Hornets lead 13-7 in the third quarter after a failed extra-point attempt.

Santino Harper scores again for STVM

A 14-yard touchown run by Santino Harper, his second of the game, extends the Irish's lead to 31-7 in the third quarter.

Grizzlies mauling Bees

Wadsworth scored four second-quarter touchdowns and lead Brecksville 42-0 and the second half will start with a running clock.

Norton leads Streetsboro at halftime

Noah Willig caught a touchdown pass from Toby Tatka and the Panthers lead the Rockets 7-3 at the half.

Medina extends lead over Stow

After the Bulldogs cut their deficit to seven points, the Bees responded with two second-quarter touchdowns and Medina leads 28-7 at halftime.

Green pulls even with Jackson

The Bulldogs got the last score of the first half and are tied 14-14 with the Polar Bears.

Revere leads Cuyahoga Falls at halftime

The Minutemen have the game's only score and lead the Black Tigers 7-0 at halftime.

East puts hammer down against Lyndhurst Brush

The Dragons have dominated the first half and lead the Arcs 26-0 with a minute to go before halftime.

STVM comfortably ahead of Buchtel

After a 2-yard run by Santino Harper gave the Irish a 24-0 lead, the Griffins responded with a 43-yard touchdown pass from Stevie Diamond to Marcel Boyce Jr. to make it 24-7.

Aurora increases lead over Copley

Greenmen quarterback Matt Geier scores on a 60-yard run and Aurora has doubled up Copley 28-14. The Greenmen added another TD and lead Copley 35-14 at halftime.

Hoban opens big lead

Lamar Sperling has scored three touchdowns and JacQai Long has added a touchdown pass and the Knights lead Cincinnati Withrow 35-13.

Tallmadge-Highland tied at halftime

In a battle of unbeatens the Hornets scored first and the Blue Devils answered. Both defenses have done a good job containing explosive offensive opponents.

Woodridge leads Coventry at halftime

The Bulldogs broke a 7-7 tie in the second quarter and lead the Comets 14-7 at the half.

Jackson reclaims lead over Green

Jason Davide scores again for the Polar Bears and they lead the Bulldogs 14-7 in the second quarter.

Barberton blitzing Kent Roosevelt

Xzavior Macon scores on a touchdown run and the Magics lead the Rough Riders 24-0 in the second quarter.

Aurora breaks tie with Copley

After Copley quarterback DaOne Owens tied the score with a 2-yard TD run, the Greenmen answer and lead 21-14 in the second quarter.

Defense gives Hoban the lead

Jordan Sewell scores on a fumble recovery and the Knights take a 14-7 lead over Cincinnati Withrow in the second quarter.

Wadsworth leads Brecksville

The Grizzlies score the first two touchdowns and lead the Bees 14-0 after the first quarter.

Hudson routing Twinsburg

The Explorers scored four times in the first quarter and lead the Tigers 24-0 after the first quarter.

Stow cuts into Medina's lead

Trailing 14-0, the Bulldogs put together a scoring drive and now trail 14-7 in the second quarter.

Nordonia takes lead over North Royalton

Trailing 7-3 the Knights score their first touchdown and take a 9-7 lead in the second quarter. The teams have gone back and forth with touchdowns and the Knights now lead 23-14.

East leads Brush

The Dragons score first but the extra point is blocked and East leads Lyndhurst Brush 6-0.

Aurora-Copley tied in first quarter

The two teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter and are tied 7-7.

Green, Tallmadge, Hoban tie scores

Robby Klockner connected with Zach Baglia for a touchdown to draw the Bulldogs even with Jackson 7-7 and Ty Hurst throws a touchdown pass to Gino Spano and the Blue Devils are even with Highland 7-7. A touchdown by Hoban has drawn the Knights into a 7-7 tie with Cincinnati Withrow.

STVM rides D'Anthony Kelker to big lead over Buchtel

After a 66-yard touchdown run by D'Anthony Kelker and a field goal by Nick Bertolini, Kelker struck again, this time on defense, returning an interception for a touchdown to give the Irish a 17-0 lead late in the first quarter.

Barberton bolts to lead over Roosevelt

Roosevelt Andrews scores and the Magics lead Kent Roosevelt 14-0

Withrow scores first against Hoban

Cincinnati Withrow scores the game's first touchdown and leads Hoban 7-0 in first quarter.

Hudson jumps on top of Twinsburg

A field goal and a touchdown following a special teams turnover and the Explorers lead 10-0 in the first quarter.

Southeast on top of North

The Pirates score the first touchdown and add a 2-point conversion and lead the Vikings 8-0. The Pirates have extended their lead to 22-0 in the second quarter.

Jackson ahead early over Green

A touchdown run by Jason Davide gives the Polar Bears a 7-0 lead over the Bulldogs in the first quarter.

Lukas Stiles gives Highland early lead over Tallmadge

A 32-yard run by Lukas Stiles gives the Hornets a 7-0 lead over the Blue Devils in the first quarter.
