1. Divide players into two teams and choose a court to play on.
2. The game starts with a serve from one team to the other. The serve must be made to the other team from behind the end line and over the net.
3. The receiving team must return the ball over the net in a maximum of three touches (usually a pass, a set, and a spike), or the other team scores a point.
4. The ball can be played off any part of the body, but each player can only touch the ball once in a row, except for blocking at the net.
5. The game continues until one team reaches a predetermined number of points (usually 25), with a minimum two-point lead. If the game is tied at 24 points, the first team to gain a two-point lead wins.
6. The team that wins the rally earns a point and the right to serve next.
